Professional phycologist, nurses and staff but the phycologist and management are unrealistic with giving a person time to themselves. They need to improve the balance of support and freedom. 1 week for a person is not acceptable.

I personally like it here but it needs to be kept in mind that Cobourg is small and there aren't a lot of resources here. The clinic is clearly so underfunded so it can make accessing service difficult sometimes. I can't really fault it here because they have such a small budget and with this essentially being the only free mental health clinic in town that I'm aware of, there just isn't a big enough staff to handle the high volume of people. It's far from perfect but they seem to be doing the best they can with what little they have. It's not perfect and it won't meet everyone's needs sadly, but for some such as myself it has been very helpful. Just be aware that if you do intend to give this place a try, they are underfunded, overworked, but are trying to make the best with what they've got.

There's a reason this place has the rating and reputation that it does. It's actually gross and awful to think of the scarce amount of funding for mental health available that this place squanders. My friend worked up the courage and told a "peer support worker" that they were a victim of child abuse and that worker proceeded to tell her that "maybe she should just try not to think about it." That was the only 'advice' offered, to a person in crisis who had to work up the courage to confess that kind of deep trauma and this is how flippantly they were treated by these "professionals". This place should really be shut down and then redisperse the funds that are wasted on this Kafkaesque nightmare. Best to avoid this place, hopefully if enough people make complaints then something will have to change for the better, for the sake of all of the sick and desperate people out there who are reaching out for help only to be made to feel worse, belittled and knocked back.... This is not how a Mental Health Clinic should be operating and the testimonials from those unfortunate enough to have any kind of experience with this place really say it all....

Lacking qualified therapists, a couple therapists here are really good, others are actually counterproductive. I think if you're like me and have been using mental health services for years you're likely well experienced in coping strategies and need a therapist with a master's degree not a beginner degree. I think Northumberland hills hospital needs to look at the clients needs and offer appropriate services and properly trained and experienced therapists.
Update cobourg is not a small town and has a lot of new homes and new population, cobourg has unfortunately reduced its public transport, making it more difficult to access services, cobourg is not providing the services that the area requires.

She is very nice kind helpful, Listens and understands.
Has everything it takes to be a councillor, And the only one I will go to.

After a great deal of stress I broke down at triage one night and asked to speak to a counsellor. I was told that my number would be passed on to this place. Days later I got a call from "Brad", who spoke with me briefly and said he would be back in touch on Monday or Tuesday of the following week. This was weeks ago. I called community mental health to let them know about this and was swiftly transferred from one monotone employee to the voice mail of another, who has not bothered to call me back. These people need your help, not your apathy. Horrible organization and client communication. I would give them 0/5 if that was even possible. Do not recommend. I would rather talk to squirrels in the park than these people ever again.

Been here before years ago.
The "professional help" was insulting and degrading.
He obviously was not in his element!
Now this one is helpful but I walked in there the other day the staff was cold and nonverbal.

Bad place to seek help, counsellors seem more interested in talking me out of counselling and refuse to help me or diagnose me, i have been diagnosed bipolar, schitzophrenic , severe depression, social anxiety and borderline personality disorder, ive had multiple suicide attempts in the past, (not able to recall any of them)and the most recent attempt almost worked, i was in i.c.u for 7 days and was completely unconcious all 7 days until i woke up on day 7 and was immediately discharged on my own with no shirt, jacket, socks or shoes or ride home 10 kms away in december while there was a blizzard, i had no money, and was cold, i waited in a bus shelter for 45 minutes , thankfully the port hope bus driver let me ride and pay later i have spent months in psychiatric hospitals in my life and never refused any therapy or been rude or angry with any mental health worker. I have been made to feel like liar and guilty by this mental health facility and its mental health doctors, because of my mental health disorders, ive tried to make multiple appointments with dr farewell and get turned away every time due to them " needing more information from my family doctor" i will never again seek help from this ridiculous excuse for a mental health clinic, i am currently seeking help daily, i just want to smile and laugh again, if you want help, do mot go to cobourg, they are fakes!
