Hey. If you don’t want to read the whole thing, feel free to skip to the last two points at the bottom.

My mother and two of my siblings went to see Sanita for our family therapy. We went once as a family, then we decided to meet separately with her. My mother, who is extremely narcissistic and problematic(why we are in therapy as well as our issues from trauma), has been going to see her weekly since. One of my two siblings and I went once on our own. Both of us left feel unheard and invalidated.. among other things. I started talking about myself, of course, and Sanita found ways to tie it in her life and then respond to me as if my life would match perfectly to that. “Oh, you grew up as the youngest? Oh. My youngest son grew up like xyz and feels like he needs to be rescued therefore you MUST feel that way and share his feelings so now I’m going to go a tangent about that perspective even though it doesn’t apply to you.” I explained to her that doesn’t apply to me, as I didn’t have the luxury of being “rescued” as a kid. I then went back to trying to talk and explain. I told her how I felt often and she said she had looked up what “overwhelmed” means and then explained it to me… after telling her that I feel it often. It was weird, unnecessary, and I feel like it wasted time. Speaking of perspective, I had told her a story and she interrupted me to make sure I understood that it was my perspective that my mother didn’t like me (based on how I interpreted her) and I had to explain to her that NO it’s not my perspective because our mother grew up telling us that she doesn’t like us. I do understand perspective, however you don’t tell someone who witnessed a car crash that it was just their perspective. The perspective would be the details of the crash: how it happened, how bad it was, who was at fault etc. My sibling tried to express that they felt invalidated when Sanita told them things that happened were a perspective. Sanita did not handle the feedback professionally or maturely, and chose to be passive-aggressive. She shared how qualified she is, and even how she help children who grew up in a cult. Brag brag brag, and therefore she couldn’t possibly have any room for improvement or growth, I guess? I’m not sure, but it seems to me she has problems with her own pride that she has to deal with.

If you’ve never been to therapy, don’t start here! Please! She is my first and it makes me worried about the others, but I know there are so many good ones!

If you’re already seeing Sanita and you feel like something isn’t quite right, trust your instincts! There are so many therapists out there! Don’t settle!

If you’re happy with her then I’m glad it’s working for you honestly and I still wish better for you.

I’ve attached two photos on what to look for in a therapist! It’s super important that you’re happy with your therapist. I wish you all the best!
