This is a horrible place to house your loved one. Our family member was dropped while being transferred from her bed to Broda chair. They waited 24 hours before having portable x-ray come in and calling for an ambulance transfer to hospital. They originally told us she fell. Our family member is non-verbal and non-ambulatory for the past 10 years. HOW COULD SHE HAVE FALLEN!?! When ambulance crew arrived they finally admitted that she was dropped. The staff did not do a thorough assessment of her injuries and therefore it was not reported that she also had a head injury. Therefore once she arrived at the hospital a CT scan of her head was never done. In addition, she a shattered humerus and displaced fractures of her tibia and fibula. Due to her advanced age, surgery and casting was not an option and she was sent back to the facility with splints on her arm and leg, as well as Morphine for the pain. Once back at the facility the family asked that she not be moved and to be left in bed to rest. Instead the staff forced her broken limbs into a dress instead of leaving her in the comfortable hospital gown. They provided the most minimal care possible when she returned to the facility. An incident report was done but was found to be insufficient so a third party was brought in to do one. This so called CARE facility has the absolute worst communication with family members that I have ever encountered. Meds were not given on time and positioning of the patient for comfort was non-existent. The family provided all the comfort measures. This facility did NOTHING!! Subsequently, our family member passed away one week to the day of being DROPPED by their staff. As far as I'm concerned, it is my opinion that Rivercrest killed our family member.

Our family is so grateful in the care for our father in his last days. Graham made us feel welcome right from the start. The staff were amazing and accommodating. Thank you all for your kindness and compassion!!

I took me a long time to post this as our experience with Rivercrest was extremely traumatic and disappointing. Our family member died there last summer after being there for only 5 days. They were supposed to be checking his urine output. He never urinated the entire time and ended up with kidney failure and also bacterial pneumonia caused by aspiration and died a couple days later. I had asked for them to send an ambulance because I knew something was wrong. His left leg was swollen and he was guarding his very distended abdomen. Not one staff member noticed this. They were also feeding him too fast and he aspirated his food when the HCA walked away, while he was still chewing his food the day before. I asked for them to investigate why this happened, after he died, because we wanted answers and they never got back to me. I highly recommend watching over your family members if they’re living there. Also, if any of the management at Rivercrest see this, I’m still waiting for answers.

The care my Dad received from all of the staff was outstanding. The love and support we felt as his family from everyone did not go unnoticed. Rivercrest is, by far, the nicest and best kept care centre we visited so choosing this lodge was a very easy choice for us. All of the staff go above and beyond to meet the needs of their residents and expectations of family members. The incredible care and all the fun events and activities for residents and families is exemplary.

I am very disappointed with the communication. I have phoned at least 10 times and left 3 messages and no one has called me back. Do they ever answer the phone? I was trying to locate a friend that was being transferred from the hospital to Rivercrest and I do not have any contact information for his family. If they are not allowed to give out information for a patient that was admitted, someone should have called me and explained that instead of just ignoring my request.

If you are First Nations or have a large family DO NOT bring your loved one here. We feel fully discriminated against and they complain about us even though we are quiet and respectful. This could be our last time with our loved one and we're constantly berated or nit-picked. I am totally Not happy with our treatment here. Putting in a request for transferring.

The attendants, physio, recreation personal, dietician, nurses etc. are all excellent and try their best to care for the residents. However, they are spread way too thin and therefore can't provide enough care which leaves the many residents who can't do anything for themselves feeling abandoned and sometimes frantic much of the time. Our government needs to step up the minimum ratio with regard to attendant numbers. Otherwise the care will never be satisfactory in these privately run care facilities. The food is just ok but it used to be better before Covid 19. The meals are often meager, boring and often inedible now. If your loved ones reside here they really need you to come and make them feel secure and significant as the nursing attendants just don't have time to provide what is needed no matter how hard they try. I believe right now (2022) they only provide 7 attendants on shift for the entire place, which is nowhere near enough when so many of the residents need 2 attendants to transport them to the bathroom etc. The rooms aren't anything to brag about. Beds are new style, hospital type and the bathrooms still have plumbing that looks like it's been there since the 60's. The dressers and closets are rough, old and well used. They have one pet bird, Peanut Butter, who the residents enjoy and a fish tank that is in the physio room downstairs. They do allow health checked pets to visit. They have regular musical entertainment and church services as well as a monthly special, catered meal which some can attend. All in all, if you are considering Rivercrest for your loved one, count on being there a lot to provide the more personal care that is definitely needed. If you can't be there for them plan on hiring an attendant to come and be with them part of the day, or a few times per week, if finances allow.
Update- Rivercrest is now putting on a fresh coat of paint in the common area's and the rooms.

My Grandmother still call my mom. Anyway she been there for long time approximately almost 19 years. Was used to live Bonnyville Alberta. That time she was unable to care herself since her right side strokes. She transferred there as long time. I'm sure she enjoying with her nurses, staff 🙂 she will misses her previously staff members and some her friend & family members.
