It would be great if store hours were open longer. I was surprised after moving out here in July that a community of its size closes so early. I dont work from home and trying to rush back to CP to shop local is a rush - I have no choice but to shop when I'm in Ottawa - they're are open till 11 pm.

They don't honor thier policies. I went in to buy some hot soup but they had ran out so I I looked around and they had the jarred version for either $8.99 each or 2 for $16. After I had checked out I noticed the multi discount did not apply. I was charged $8.99 for both. I waited in line at customer service to get it fixed. There was someone in front of me so I had to wait 15 mins or so which isn't thier fault. At the customer service there is a policy posted stating that if an item under $10 is misscanned you get the item for free. When it was my turn, I asked the customer service rep if I could get the first soup free. She contacted her manager , who said that technically it's not a price scanning error because it's a multi discount issue. The manager would not honor the policy. I didnt agree with this and just returned all my purchases. They should atleast follow thier own policies.

Been picking up groceries on my way home including the 5 gallons water bottle without returning an empty one from either Independant or Shoppers (same water bottle but cheaper than Independant!) in CP and over the year have collected a few extras empties. To my surprise, you can't get your deposit back unless you buy a full one. Really!, apparently it's a corporate decision, no recourse at store level. Another great example of common sense (or lack of) from a large corporate company. A deposit is a value on the container itself. Once the empty is returned, you refund this value to the customer, plain and simple. Imagine the beer store would be doing the same thing. So an email will be send to the corporate office to probably only be brushed off just like at the store level. It makes you want to shop elsewhere. For everyone knowledge, None of that non-sense at Walmart with your empty water bottle. They are return and refunded at customer service. Until this issue is resolve, I will be limiting my shopping there and I would encourage anyone with the same issue to speak-up. Otherwise, they think it's OK to push customers around.

This store now looks like a dystopian ghetto with the new plexiglass fences. Prices are relatively high given the mediocre products. I'd rather not go shopping at what is starting to look like a prison.

If you need to use the bathroom when you arrive it's a nightmare to get to it if you go in the "entrance" doors. The place has so many security gates and fences you then have to walk to the other side of the store to get through one of the not blocked checkout lanes, run over whoever might be using said check-out lane, then backtrack to the stairs that you could see when you walked in, go up the stairs, and if you're lucky and haven't messed yourself by this point you get to walk down yet another long walkway to get the facilities. There's more fencing in this store than the US/Mexico border.

Debbie at self-checkout on October 10, 2024 at 5:34pm. Carleton Place
I said the 50 percent sticker didn't come off... can you please help me and she said the computer doesn't know, you have to do it yourself... well, I didn't know how (I've had it not come off through not self-checkout as well) which is why I asked. I apologize for my rude tone in response to your rudeness but I wouldn't have asked if I knew, sorry for the inconvenience of your job.

Also for the meals to go you used to be able to walk in the store to get your meal, pay there and then leave... then they put up a little bit of fencing still with an exit (you could still go get your meal, pay and leave easily) now you have to walk through the whole store to leave, so I'll be going to Walmart for now on.

I am not a regular shopper at Independent,I find them quite expensive but when I do go I am so impressed by how clean and organized the store is, the staff are friendly and helpful.when you go in and the shelves are stocked and you don't feel that your in staffs way while they stock or inconveniencing them by asking for help because they are busy stocking.Everything looks fresh and well displayed.I went in to buy 1 item for $2.49 ended up coming home with $70.00 worth of groceries.I feel this maybe my go to store I felt very comfortable there.
