I had an extremely disappointing experience at Sheldon Hospital in Calgary. I went there with a high fever lasting four days, severe flu symptoms, chest pain, and difficulty breathing. Despite my urgent condition, I waited six hours in the morning for care, only to feel so unwell that I had to leave and manage my symptoms at home with ibuprofen. I returned in the evening, endured another six-hour wait, and still left untreated.

My wife, who was in a similar condition, also received no help. All we needed was an antibiotic injection, but we were left to suffer at home. What was even more frustrating was seeing other patients—seemingly prioritized because they were Canadian—being attended to even though they arrived after me. When I asked why the wait was so long, I was told they were "busy."

This hospital's lack of care and disregard for non-Canadian patients is unacceptable. It felt discriminatory, and their inefficiency put our health at serious risk.

I decided to sell my whole things and exit from Canada after this experience.

I went with my husband to the emergency room on Dec. 30th, he had trouble with coughing due to a cold and he is asthmatic.
I was there watching the staff while waiting, starting by the security staff who had been amazing dealing with people despite the hard circumstances they’ve been through, the triage nurses and how they deal with tempered patients sometimes with understanding and patience, and of course the professionals staff who are really caring and doing all their best while working for a very long shift themselves specially during a supposed holidays season. Thanks all for the care you provide.

I went to Chumir on a Wednesday evening with a broken wrist. I was triaged quickly and given extra strength Tylenol and a sling. Soon I was x-rayed, prepped to have my wrist bones pulled into place, and then casted. I don't remember any of the procedure, except that they played an artist I requested and I sang along. The nurse, doctor, anesthesiologist, student-doctor, and x-ray tech who treated me were all professional, highly competent, caring, and approachable. I was there for about 4 hrs, during which I got before and after x-rays, and got my wrist casted. Thank you so much to everyone who works at Chumir! You made a painful and scary situation almost a joy.

Dr. Beach Scott Fredrick is a very nice doctor. He helped my mom and treated her as if she were his own mom. I really appreciate his love for his job and his work. My mom is feeling so much better already.

I was helped by Colleen and Elizabeth today with the sexual assault response team. they were truly such amazing people they made me feel so incredibly comfortable and safe. I’m someone who finds it incredibly hard to open up to people, and I even opened up with them. Truly truly amazing people and so professional they walked me through everything even in the process of treating me. We all cracked some jokes (unrelated to the situation of course) and made light of such a dark situation, If you’re ever struggling with this situation this is definitely the place to go. Colleen M and Elizabeth S if you ever see this thank you, you guys have changed my life in such a beautiful way. Thank you guys for being you:)

I have been to this urgent care a few times. The staff have always been the nicest crew a patient can ask for!! Very professional but also caring, to the extend to apologize for the long wait, while they could be pulling very long shits themselves. Thanks for the care you provide.

I visited the Sheldon M. Chumir Health Centre Jan 16th for help with pneumonia, and my experience was unfortunately disappointing. Upon arrival, I went straight to the triage desk, where I hoped to receive the support and care I needed. However, I was met by a nurse who treated me in a manner that left me feeling undervalued and disregarded.

I've never encountered such poor treatment from a healthcare professional before. It felt as though I was just a paycheck to this nurse rather than a person in need of care. It's disheartening to see someone in the medical field seemingly lacking the compassion and dedication that is crucial to providing effective patient support.

I believe that in any job, especially in healthcare, the drive to help others should be present. Unfortunately, my experience made it seem like the focus was far removed from patient care. I hope that my feedback helps to emphasize the importance of empathy and respect in all patient interactions.
