My parents are treated with respect and kindness always. This was the best move for them, and they agree! The food is great. The events are fun and fantastic! Families are included and informed in events and happenings. This is a great place, great location and great staff.

My mother moved into Wedgewood at the beginning of January and although it was a significant adjustment for her, the staff were wonderful in making her feel at home. A huge shoutout to the staff in the dining room - you made the biggest impact in helping my mom adjust and feel cared for. In particular, I’d like to personally thank Julie, Megan, Chrystal, Nichole and Lisa for greeting my mom with a smile and a hug multiple times a day and always a kind word to put a smile on her face.

It’s important to note that although there are two seatings for breakfast, the kitchen is open until 9 am and residents can eat in the dining room (and can arrive after 8 am) for their breakfast. This was not clear for one staff member who scolded my mother for arriving “late” for breakfast (8:20 am). This issue was immediately discussed with management who confirmed that the kitchen is open and accessible until 9 am.

Speaking of the kitchen, my mother is very happy with the food options. There is a large variety, you have different options if you don’t like the dish of the day. Matt, the dining manager, is doing a fabulous job - my mom is gaining weight 👍.

The rooms are cleaned weekly and the staff takes care of your laundry, including your personal clothes, towels and bedding. My mom was so happy and surprised to see that her bed linen’s were changed. Thank you Morgann! There are also facilities to do your own laundry on each floor.

Beckie ensures that a variety of activities are planned, something for everyone, and will personally call some residents to join in.

Naturally in a large community like Wedgewood, there are things that can be improved which have been directly discussed with the various managers. For example, a lack of internal communication between management and staff, various confidentiality and privacy breaches, a significant discrimination against smokers who were repeatedly called “trouble makers” and/or who were “caught” smoking (not appropriate language for seniors, they are not in kindergarten). An appropriate place for smokers to go to which is protected from the elements and safe for seniors to access would be welcome.

Currently, smokers can access the “smoking area” from the front door or through the garage. The cord on the ground in the garage to step on to open the garage door is: (1) a fall hazard as it is not clearly marked (black on black floor); and (2) you need a significant amount of force to step on the cable to open the garage which my mom does not have. As this is the closest way to the smoking area, it would be ideal if this was better marked.

No one gave my mom a guide of the building when she first moved in, where to go for activities, what the rules were - even though this was discussed during onboarding and signature of contract that someone would be there to guide my mom for the first week. We were lucky to find a volunteer resident who, together with Becky, organized a new comers tea.

All in all, my mother has slowly adjusted to her new home and is beginning to enjoy the new pace of life.

The Wedgewood is beautifully situated on the St. Lawrence River and my mother enjoyed the spectacular views and passing ships throughout her seven year stay. The building is well designed taking advantage of its location in Brockville and nearby historic downtown. Mom lived in independent living and eventually in assisted living until the age of almost 96 and we could always rely on the staff to be caring and available. Mom enjoyed the connections with people in the dining room, and having a special place for family when visiting. The Wedgewood was a wonderful place for Mom, and I would highly recommend this retirement residence.

I have been a Guest Attendant since Oct of this year. If you stand up for the residents n there well-being you won't last long..
Please know if your hired as Guest Attendant your doing the work of a Cert P.S.W without training...

When you bring to Chartwell your concerns about how residents are treated your shuned....

They rather have ppl with little to no experience look after your love ones charge you out the arm n leg for caff food or server n psw eating while serving them....

But this is okay...
Or have there contract RN talk about residents example...
Or
taking meds from one resident cause another was out of them..
Or
Taking breifts from another cause the resident was out...

The list goes on..

Or activities girl from Royal Brock was a psw and very abused to residents but this is okay....

Your too much you gotta go.....

So if you have a love one in brockville or any Chartwell may I suggest you visit n keep a close eye on Your love ones...

The min you call out abuse or bad behavior on other sraff your the bad person...

How can a guest attendant watch a residence go onto elevator from a lock floor... and be well over 45 mins according to cam footage and no one notice

If not for a psw akaunion rep be coming in around 630 ish am n see her in the pouring rain call n ask is so so in her room?

Yes she is....
Okay why then do I have her outside with me the psw union rep says........

Our father was a resident at the Wedgewood for almost 2 years with various levels of care required. The staff were caring, responsive and supportive.

The assisted living floor team was always able to meet his needs, which became significant during the Pandemic and went above and beyond to keep him happy, healthy and safe during this challenging period.

Kathy D was a fabulous help. From the first tour she stayed in touch, not pushy, just right. She was instrumental in helping my brothers and I find the perfect place for our Mom. Everyone at Wedgewood is super friendly and accommodating. My Mom and I highly recommend Wedgewood.

My Dad moved into the Chartwell Wedgewood Retirement Residence in Brockville last December as a “winter stay”. Kathy D. Was so helpful in giving us tours and showing us around before he moved in.....she was a big reason Dad decided this was the place for him. Kathy spent time showing him various suite options and all the amenities. She introduced him to residents and staff as we were on the tour. She made him feel comfortable right from the start.

He has enjoyed living there since the day he moved in even through these difficult times with COVID restrictions.

He decided in February to stay permanently as he enjoyed it so much and said it felt like home....he can’t say enough about the staff....everyone from the kitchen and dining staff, housekeepers, nursing teams, maintenance people and laundry staff have all been so friendly and helpful and have all made him feel at home. We also really appreciate the team that works the reception desk.....they are busy but always have a kind word and are accommodating when Dad wants to sit and have a chat!

As a family, we are so glad that Dad is happy and thriving at the Wedgewood....you can feel a great sense of community there and all staff have a friendly and even more important - a very caring approach.

We would highly recommend the Wedgewood in Brockville for anyone looking for a very well run assisted living facility.

P.s. Dad raves about the meals....especially dessert....lol

My father needed higher level of care. The staff, particularly Kathy D. was immensely helpful in helping to organize this for him. We are deeply grateful for the flexibility, support and help provided during a very difficult time in our life. Highly recommend their services to anyone.
