I’ve had two experiences at the Fort Saskatchewan hospital—one for my partner’s surgery and another for a follow-up visit. The first experience was great. Despite it being a Sunday evening, the staff acted quickly, and my partner received excellent care during his inpatient stay. We’re truly grateful to the doctor for his professionalism and the nurses for their kindness and attentiveness.

However, our follow-up visit was a completely different story. We waited five hours in the ER just to see a doctor for a post-surgery checkup. The care was good once we finally got in, but having only one doctor available in the ER is clearly not enough. It also seems inefficient to require patients to go through the ER for scheduled imaging (my partner needed a CT scan). Wouldn’t it make more sense to allow direct appointments with the imaging department instead of forcing people to sit in the waiting room for hours?

Speaking of the waiting room… whoever designed this hospital should reconsider their career in interior design. The color scheme is so depressing, as if being in a hospital isn’t miserable enough already. The waiting room chairs are poop-colored, the walls are brown and gray, and the whole space just feels bleak. Then there are the ER bed curtains—at first glance, they looked like they hadn’t been washed in years, covered in brown and yellowish stains. Turns out, that’s just the actual fabric design. Seriously?

And let’s talk about the visitor waiting area. I had to sit there for two hours while my partner was in surgery, and it was freezing. Who thought it was a good idea to design a space with massive windows when temperatures drop to -35°C in the winter? I was shivering the whole time, and I can only imagine how uncomfortable it must be for patients waiting there after procedures.

Now, let’s discuss another adventure: getting a cup of coffee. The so-called café operates for a whopping three hours per day and is closed on weekends. Because obviously, people in hospitals don’t need coffee outside of that tiny window. When I finally got my hands on a cup, the sign proudly stated: “We proudly brew Starbucks.” Proudly? Starbucks? In 2025? Nothing to be proud of. And the taste? 🤢 Let’s just say I’ve had better gas station coffee. You’d think the hospital could earn some money by subleasing space to an actual coffee shop—one with real coffee, fresh pastries, and normal working hours so that people stuck waiting for hours could actually use it. But hey, what do I know?

Overall, the medical care at this hospital is solid, but the wait times, facility design, and basic amenities need serious improvement. A little more efficiency, a little less gloom, and maybe a real coffee shop would go a long way.

I was a patient in Fort Saskatchewan Emergency Services on July 4, 2025. I registered around 5:30 PM.
I was examined thoroughly and they tested EVERYTHING-even antigens, magnesium, electrolytes, etc. They gave me a CT scan and a CKG. The nurse even took care of a spider that was in my room!(I don’t like spiders) All was done and I was out of there before 11! I was impressed by the level of care I received. I was also impressed by the maintenance provided by the cleaning staff. I apologize to the nurses and doctors whose names I have forgotten. They deserve the accolades.

I came in by ambulance ready to deliver my baby, no time for formalities.
The nursing staff were ready when I arrived, and what easily could have been a tramatic birthing experience ended up being beautiful.
I felt incredibly cared for during my stay. Since Ft Sask wasn't my planned birthing hospital I am unable to comment about the Doctors.
However, blaming a hospital for wait times on google is a bit countertuative considering all hospitals have insane wait times. The good news is… if you're in any hospital you're in the right place. You will be taken care of. If waiting 6hrs is a long wait for you maybe consider seeing a family Doctor or walk in clinic.
In a world full of hate, can we just be a bit more compassionate for the people who are actually trying to make a difference under incredible pressures.

I went to emergency one evening for a cut. (I wanted wife to superglue it but she said I needed stitches. Grr) Front nurse cleaned it and agreed I needed stitches. Grr. Haha.

So I waited and waited and waited. It was a long wait, but I wasn't bleeding or in any pain so I understood those with more urgent need of care are going to go ahead of me.

I finally got in and waited some more.

A Dr. Came and stitched me right up and I was outta there.

All the nurses and Dr's I had an interaction with were very friendly and seemed happy to be at work.
