The staff at Fort Saskatchewan Eyecare are by far the most caring I’ve ever encountered. Today we had another eye emergency (we’ve had many) and once again they made time to see us right away.
Dr. Lafreniere is also amazing with kids. She has a knack for explaining everything in a way they too can understand which is so comforting.

Eye doctor Shanine was fantastic. Personable, gave a lot of insightful explanations. Open to question. Empathetic and curious about patient experience including how it “feels” to see, which was really great to encounter in an eye exam! 5/5 for her portion of things.

Had some confusion and cumulatively, not great experience with reception though.

First with my insurance direct billing - they kept having issues with it and 3 different team members had different ideas about why and were working on it. I have never had an issue with it before and regularly direct bill. I suspected they were entering the wrong name. I go by my middle name and specified that right off the hop because it’s what my insurance card shows. They were about ready to give up on it before they listened to what I was trying to say about name and they tried what I was trying to tell them and it immediately worked. It could have been a malfunction of the system or a misunderstanding on my part about what the issue ended up being, but it did feel like they were unwilling to hear my input which may have been the issue while they were all busy with it together (3 of them at once).

Then later in the appointment things were communicated differently or only partially across the same team members. I waited 20 minutes or so at the end for a discussion of a different test result as one team member told me to, then later another asked me why I’m still waiting and turned out they had nothing more to discuss. Left me a little confused as I only hung around to have the talk about the results if there were none.

Then I called at a later date when I was at an eyeglass location to pick up new glasses I had ordered (because Fort Sask Eyecare itself didn’t have any frames I liked) to confirm my prescription. There was a slight issue with the relaxed lens and we wanted to confirm that the prescription wasn’t entered wrong. I didn’t have it on hand when I popped in to pick them up (just happened to be in Edmonton from Fort and they were in) and sat at the glasses store for a good half hour at least waiting for them to get me my prescription to confirm after they said on the phone they were sending it over. I don’t understand why they couldn’t share it over the phone to confirm, or fire it off as soon as they got the call / while on the phone, or even let us know it would be a bit of a wait for it if they were busy.

Maybe it’s an unreasonable expectation on my part to have it emailed quickly or for them to communicate when they could send it, but on the phone with the glasses place they sounded like they were firing it off as they spoke on the phone in that moment, so again it just left me confused / felt like a miscommunication.

I have been going to Fort Saskatchewan Eyecare since they opened. I always get great service from every single person! The front desk staff are super friendly and helpful. Dr's Hobson and Shaw are fantastic optometrists. They explain everything very thoroughly and have the best equipment available. The optician team is also wonderful and they know their stuff! Highly recommend.

Everyone was fantastic! Customer service was great! The previous place I went to, was supposed to send me my prescription. I called them twice and they kept saying they sent it but the first time they had my email wrong and the second time I just never received it. Fort Sask Eye Care was able to get my prescription within minutes and help me get fitted with contact lenses. The doctor was very nice and made sure the lenses were proper and comfortable for my eyes. Very informative and great time management. Will 100% continue to give them my business and recommend them to any family and friends.

We coming, friendly and knowledgeable reception staff. Appointment was right on time. Optometrist was personable and professional. Very clear about what tests were being done and why. Explained the results in detail but in understandable language. Very pleased with the entire experience.

When I have had issues with my eyes, they are very nice and try to get
me in if there is some seriousness to my health.
