My recent visit to H.F. Smith Home Hardware store was a great and positive experience. Staff are always welcoming and offer helpful tips and advice. Inclusive of the helpful tips and advice, staff at the pro-desk are very knowledgeable and confirm that customer hasn't forgotten about other materials or tools relating to the project at hand. Overall very satisfied and happy with service and experience! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

I feel that if they would have finished the job (missing grout, badly chipped tiles) or refunded part of the money so I can pay someone else to finish it for them we wouldn’t have been here. It has been extremely stressful and tiring dealing with them. And to have your kitchen which is the heart of our home spread through out our dinning and living room for 1.5 months and not being able to put it back together while doing a simple backsplash has been exhausting and really took a toll on our family’s life.

Long story short:
- Purchased expensive glass tiles from them, sparkly grout, and design for our brand new home’s backsplash 💰💰💰
- 1st day of job before any tiles were laid, contractor and I discussed the pattern and counted how many rows of each colour will be used for the feature piece above stove
- The rest of the backsplash was laid first day with this in mind and with metal edging where the stove starts
- I think we were nice, listening to his life story and offering food and drink
- 2nd day an additional $230 was requested for the feature piece
- First of all there was no way of changing our mind if we didn’t want to pay because of how the rest of the tiles were laid and finished the day before with a metal edge at the stove. Second of all why wasn’t he honest and upfront? He knew the day before how everything will be laid
- At the beginning we were charged extra for labour bc of the glass tiles
- Yet contractor did not use proper diamond edged blade to cut them (why? He said he didn’t want to wear it out) so why did he charge extra for if he didn’t spend any of it on a blade?
- Contractor dry cut them, so the edges looked really rough, broken, chipped (zig zag) see first 3 pics.
-I feel he didn’t care and had no attention to detail and knew it looked bad but just wanted to get away with it, bc we didn’t know anything about tiles and we trusted him
- I spend hours putting green tape on really bad tiles and white tape on places where grout was missing.
- A few of the green tape pieces were removed and those pieces “forgotten” to be replaced.
- Contractor came back multiple times to replace them (why bc he would take measurements and then run home to cut them)
- 🤣 he would have saved so much time if he would have done it right front the start
- Our wall is damaged from how he pulled out corner tiles, damage that needs to be patched up, sanded and painted
- After every visit we spend hours cleaning grout from tiles, and it was a lot of visits
- On last 2 appointments he came with his grade 8 daughter. When we asked for her to wait outside contractor refused (bc this is his daughter, he said)
- The daughter was installing tiles 🤨
- Job took 1.5 months and it is still not done. We asked the management to send someone else to finish the job, the management refused. They got the money, job is done from their point of view.
- Was thinking to leave out the fact that the job was rescheduled 3 times before it started and punctuality but I might as well be thorough...

Management said all the problems with contractor have been addressed, so it won’t happen again. That’s great. But what about me? What about customer service and making customer happy after such a nightmare of a contractor? What about finishing the job? I guess they all just want a quick buck and to move on to the next fool.

I feel that when we hired this company I should have gotten professionalism. But they have no clue what tools their contractors use or how the job will turn out.

Piece of advice: Don’t pay until job is done 100%. Don’t believe promises. First 3 pics are of the feature piece above stove how it was done the first time. Last 4 are of the job now. White tape indicating missing grout and one of the bad tiles.
