Last week, I ordered a tote (2000lbs) of chicken feed from the mill to be ready for pick up this morning.
I called the feed mill this morning.. "No, sorry, it's not ready yet. Call back in a few hours."
I call at 2. "We're still waiting on the oyster shell." SO I asked, "Will it for sure be done today? Otherwise, I'll have to buy some other feed, because I am right out." Yes, it will be done by the end of today.
I load up my kids and I start driving. It's an hour drive. I get there at 3:30. "Sorry, it's not done yet. We'll call you as soon as it's ready."
So I take my 3 kids to the park, sit around in Butte for an hour and a half, then at 5 (closing time), I still haven't received a phone call. So I call them. "We won't get to it today. The oyster shell hasn't come in yet." So I ask them if they can make it without the oyster shell. I mean, I drove an hour, I can provide oyster shell on the side for my hens if need be.
"No, sorry, we can't do that. But we can give you a small bag of layer ration to tide you over until tomorrow."
So I go in, they give me the bag of layer, I drive an hour home. I get home, AND IT'S THE WRONG FEED!!! IT'S MEDICATED CALF STARTER!!!
So now I have very hungry chickens, spent an extra $50 on fuel for a wasted trip, and wasted 4 hours out of my day. AND I HAVE TO DO IT ALL AGAIN TOMORROW BECAUSE I STILL NEED CHICKEN FEED!!!
