Have had them as a doctor for years at this point but the customer service is so bad, I left something on their emergency line for medication. NO CALL BACK. They say that line you'll get a call back same day. No problem. It's not the day after and I went to a different clinic, who not only picked up my call immediately, got me in the same day. Go somewhere else, I promise you its miles better than this place

My husband and I are new patients of Mimico Medical and we have never dealt with such a professional and customer driven clinic.
The ease of booking appointments online and the accessibility of seeing our doctor is absolutely fantastic. We feel fortunate to have Dr. Shaw as our family physician!

Im reluctant to write this review, but my experience with this clinic has been quite disappointing. I was looking forward to meeting Dr. Shaw, but poor communication from the front desk and management has soured my experience.

To provide some context:

I had my initial appointment scheduled for 11:30 AM and confirmed this time twice with the front desk. I’m usually very careful about keeping track of my appointment times and NEVER make a mistake.
On the day of the appointment, public transportation was unusually late, and I called the clinic an hour before my appointment to let them know I would be approximately 15 minutes late. Unfortunately, my call went to voicemail, so I left a message.
I arrived just under 15 minutes after my 11:30 AM appointment to be informed that I was apparently scheduled for 11 AM. This was confusing, especially since I had no email confirmation or reminder for that appointment time. If I had received a reminder, I could have addressed the miscommunication in advance.
After an hour-long transit ride there, I was asked to reschedule, and the receptionist showed little empathy.
To make matters worse, later that week, I received a $50 bill for a “No Show” appointment. Given the circumstances, this felt unreasonable as tthey mixed up my appointmernt time. Its clear that the clinic can't show some flexiblity that things can happen, their staff might have put the wrong appointment time in the system, and I was only a bit late late due to unforeseen issues with transit. It raises concerns about how much they value their patients.

I expressed my desire to speak with Dr. Shaw and the clinic manager about my experience, but I was told to address this in person at my next visit. When I inquired about having the $50 fee waived for needing to return, they couldn’t confirm this.

I sincerely hope Dr. Shaw sees this review and considers the issues within the clinic. If things don’t improve, I have no desire to be a listed client.

Update: went to this clinic this past week (July 2024). The front office staff have changed so maybe the in-person experience will be more positive. Also, the next auto bot experience was more efficient than last time

Customer service is severely lacking at this office. I have been a patient for almost two years and time and time again I have been frustrated with the way the office is run. They prefer to only use a bot to discuss matters. If I could have called them, I could have made an appointment and had my questions answered in 5 minutes. Instead I got a reply email (from a 'no-reply' address) giving me an appointment I had no say in making.
Their physiotherapist Jake was nice enough but honestly for the money he charges per visit, I could have found a nice friend who could have done the massage on my joint and offered me the link to a physio website. My work benefits were eaten up within 2 sessions with him. He doesn't use any tools whatsoever - so different from the last place I went for a number of years.
My family physician there has already changed once.
Parking can be very difficult as the street parking is pay parking, and there are side streets but much farther walking and horrible if I was actually feeling sick.
The reception team are not friendly and have a decidedly defensive tone and body language from the first moment of in-person contact.
I just get the impression overall that they don't like face to face and will get to our emails when it suits them.
If I could find another family doctor office, if I needed medical care more often, I would switch.

I don't want to be writing a negative review, but I've honestly reached my limit. I like my doctor when I meet her in person at the clinic, but every time I need a referral to a specialist or a simple prescription request, I never get one. I asked for a referral to a migraine specialist and never got one. I waited for a year and nothing. I only got my referral when I had to go to the emergency room and the doctor on duty requested one. I'm still waiting for my referral to a dermatologist. Which I honestly don't think will happen. Most of the time when I need a prescription or refill for my medications, they don't send it to the designated pharmacy. I've been without my daily medicines for depression and anxiety for almost a month, dealing with a ton of side effects. The Costco pharmacy claims that they requested a refill for my medication on September 16th. Today is October 10th and they still haven't received it. Of course, I have already tried to communicate with the clinic so that they could send my medication in the meantime and nothing was done.

If I could give this office a zero I would. They have messed things up so many times it blows my mind how they still have patients. I guess it’s because there is shortage of family doctors in Ontario. On two separate occasions they either didn’t send my referral request out at all or few weeks later (after my multiple follow ups). For the past 3 days I have been going back and forth with them on my ultrasound results that the “ultrasound/x-ray office” faxed them back on Aug 6th. I just wish they cared a little bit more about their patients. 🙁

They never answer their phone, and the only way they’ll give you an appointment is by going through their chat bot who takes 3-4days to reply or their online appointment page which also is extremely slow, Or a pain when you just need a simple question answered. I know they have a receptionist who is in the office all day, what she does on while she is at work? I don’t know, but it’s not answering emails or answering phone calls I’ll tell you that. I enjoy also the fact that if you don’t give them at least 48hours to cancel an appointment they fine you 35$ so they understand that time is sensitive and important, unless it’s your time then YOU CAN WAIT.

I rarely write any reviews but I can’t help doing it this time. Recently I left my 20+ year family doctor and changed to Dr. Shaw as this clinic is much closer to my home. I knew nothing about the clinic nor Dr. Shaw. I was nervous at the beginning. But after a few visits, I have to admit I got lucky. Dr. Shaw is one of the best doctors I have ever met. She is very knowledgeable and caring and patient for her patients. She provides detailed explanations what I should take and what I should not and explains why and very patient every time during my visit. Sometimes she wrote down notes and websites for my further reference. She sent me notes via the clinic email portal to tell me the results right after my test results came out even she knew I had booked the appointment to see her in a week — one time because she wanted me to take the medication right away, another time she knew I was worried about the result. She truly put patient’s needs first. The standard of her medical care is superior. There was no way I could ever imagine that one day I could get such high standard care after my previous 20+ years’ experience. The waiting time for my appointment is also short and very reasonable. Previously it was normal to wait at least 1 hour for my appointment after my appointment time. Dr. Shaw certainly made me feel I just ‘tasted’ two very different health care standards (although they are in the same city and under the same medical system), of which under her, it is much much better! A good doctor simply matters to how well you are taken care of even under the same system!
For the clinic’s preferred way of regular communication through online tool (moving away from phone communications), it does take time to get used to, but so far I have always received responses earlier than what clinic’s standard says, and I have no problem with it. I also like online booking system so I can schedule it to my own time preference.
Only one concern I have with the clinic is that there’s no elevator to the 2nd floor and creates difficulties for patients with mobility issues.
Overall, I am very happy to have found this clinic and found Dr. Shaw!
