The Old General Catering House - Murray River, Prince Edward Island

My husband and I had an amazing (and delicious) time at the Old General Catering House. The space itself is warm & welcoming and beautifully appointed and the attention to detail was inspiring. Christine & Paige have revitalized an old historic building in the heart of Murray River and have done an incredible job honouring the history of the building & town yet finishing it with modern touches & comforts. Our four course meal was so yummy and thoughtfully curated to our needs (I am Gluten Free). It showcased so many local & organic ingredients and some things that we had never tried before. (My husband and I were inspired to try some new ingredients after we left). Christine & Paige are very friendly and passionate about what they do going above and beyond to make the night special. It was so fun & luxurious to get to sit back in our own private dining room and be waited on for an evening. To top if all off, we left with a yummy brunch basket with fresh fruit, homemade granola bars (to die for) and a locally sourced breakfast bowl that was oven/skillet ready which made even the next day luxurious. Thank-you Christine & Paige for creating a really special memory for us! We would highly recommend this experience!

Best and most unique culinary experience of my life so far. An incredible 4 course meal and a brunch basket to go full of local ingredients all handled with care and masterful craft. Inside the Old General is a beautiful time machine to the 1800s and the chefs/owners are incredibly knowledgeable about local history. I cannot sufficiently recommend this experience to anyone visiting the Island.

What a cool and fun unique experience! My boyfriend and I were visiting PEI for the first time and one of the days we were there was his birthday, so I wanted to book something fun for him. I did some research and came across the cooking experience for making your own lobster rolls and was ecstatic for this opportunity as lobster rolls are his favourite dish! When I booked the experience, I messaged Paige and Chef Christine about the ability to add anything extra to the experience to make it even more special for his birthday. They were fast in their responses, super friendly and accommodating, and helped me make this the perfect experience for my boyfriend.
The day of was amazing! From the moment we walked in we felt welcomed and comfortable. We got a tour of the gorgeous room and Paige was very knowledgeable and excited to share everything she knew of the building, the town, and anything else. I loved all of the thrifted and vintage pieces throughout.
Chef Christine made me feel comfortable wielding the sharpest knife I've ever held and talked us through the cooking process with ease. She was easy to follow and very encouraging! All of the ingredients were fresh.
We both enjoyed the ambiance of the room while we indulged in our delicious creations, both having private moments to ourselves and enjoying fun conversation with Paige and Chef Christine.
Absolutely phenomenal experience and I will recommend the Old General Catering House to everyone I can. If we ever have the chance to work with Paige and Chef Christine again, we would count ourselves incredibly lucky!

Hosted a large group of us for my mom’s 70th birthday and did a wonderful job. The service and the food, both excellent. Very welcoming and warm. Memories to last a lifetime, and would highly recommend The Old General Catering House!

A must-experience in PEI! We booked the Pizza Night - Cooking Lesson to celebrate my boyfriend’s birthday, and they certainly made it special, especially since they were able to make it gluten-free friendly.

I absolutely recommend it if you want to celebrate a special event or simply learn how to cook a delicious dish.

Awesome experience with Paige and Chef Christine from start to finish. Made Seafood Chowder which was delicious and fun. Really nice renovated building with lots of cool history. Experience was private so you get to chat with them about the food and the area as much as you’d like. Close to the ferry too if you wanted to do it on your way coming on or off PEI like we did.

I booked a cooking lesson for my partner’s birthday, and we were so pleased with the experience! Along with the cooking lesson, we received a warm welcome with an offering of tea or coffee, and we dined at a beautifully set table with the house to ourselves.
While we were certainly impressed with Paige and Chef Christine’s hosting and culinary skills, their knowledge and love for the unique community of Murray River makes this place extra special.
