Unfortunate that we did not go here sooner. By the time we had gotten to our appointment here (after improper treatment at another vet), Joey was doing too poorly to be likely to respond to treatment. Though I showed up rather on edge after the previous vet care I received for Joey (at a different business and different vet) I was relieved to see Dr. Stephanie is well-informed on rat care and really does care.

Dr. Stephanie and everyone in the office was very kind to us, and though it was still awful to let Joey go, their support helped a lot. The letter they sent us afterwards was so thoughtful too. If I have rats (or any pets really) again in the future I won't hesitate to come here.

Added some photos of Joey (white), Elly (black and white) and Olive (brown). They all passed ~18 months of age likely all from PT. Get rats from a good breeder if you can! Genetic issues are no joke.

A great big thank you to Dr. Stephanie Gerritsen and Veterinary Tech Justine for their patient, gentle determination and time looking after our budgies, Raz and Sunny. We learned much more than the 3 books purchased about budgeriars, and it was absolutely fascinating. We were amazed at the techniques to assess their health, clip claws and wings (temporarily grounded, lol), as well as find out healthy budgies are quite fiesty, as displayed by their reactions to being handled by two very capable experts. Our "twits" are doing well at home, and we are all eternally grateful to the Thousand Islands Veterinary Services team. My husband and I were given much more important information to read further from Dr. Gerritsen and are well on our way to implementing her advice to ensure Raz and Sunny continue to remain happy and healthy. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this establishment for the care of anyone's animal companion. In closing, we were relieved to find a veterinarian who provides health services to avians. Again, thank you...from the bottom of our hearts. After learning the special circumstances needed to prevent reproduction and possible complications between our very bonded pair of mating budgies, only a year old (2 years of age is recommended if you decide to take on the responsibility, proper care and worries of breeding, especially for the health of the "hen"), we have decided it would be best to rehome our female Sunny. For the sake of her health, safety, and special circumstances. Not to mention, they are from the same clutch. They were so young when we adopted them their gender was not obvious. You need a knowledgeable individual to assess the vent area to determine sex. We wish we had since we only want our two sweet budgies to be safe from possible unfortunate circumstances. Interbreeding is not appropriate nor healthy for the sake of chicks. If you ever consider obtaining more than one budgie, please research and talk to an avian veterinarian first. You won't regret it. Again, high recommendation to this office.

Exotic pet owners beware!!! This vet clinic is outrageously helpful and caring towards animals! I was extremely happy with the service provided by the amazing team that runs the establishment. My boys got so much love and attention and I couldnt be more disappointed that we had to leave!!! We will return for any future needs our pets may have because these folks prioritize care over cash and you can tell just by the way you are warmly greeted. Gemini and Little Dipper are so thankful

I highly recommend after the experience we had.
My family and I had to say goodbye to our dog who was almost 14 years old. We called other vets and they were more interested in selling services or how much money we wanted to spend than realizing the difficult decision we had to make.
The compassion everyone provided us at Thousand Islands Veterinary was incredible. The staff took the time ( on multiple occasions ) to speak to us over the phone before we made the decision to come in.
When the day came they had us in right away. They walked us through the process. Spoiled our dog with treats. Paperwork was quick. Then the time came to say goodbye. I could not pull myself together to speak so the staff made sure she was comfortable and knew we were there. At the end, the staff continued to show compassion and kindness.
We even received paw prints, clay paw print and a lovely card signed by the staff days later.
The staff are incredibly kind and knowledgeable. They went out of their way to provide not only incredible customer service but also made sure our dog’s last moments would be filled with love.

All the staff are very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. Have been using this clinic for more years than I can remember and will continue to as long as we have animals in our care. Everything is always well explained and they make sure you understand the treatment plan. Even when the final outcome is not what was hoped for, the staff are sympathetic and show compassion for both the owner and the animal. Keep up the good work TIVS!

Unfortunately our visit wasn't a happy one as thousand islands veterinarians helped us say goodbye to our fur baby hope. ? but they were the most compassionate and caring people during the entire experience. They are just amazing people who love animals ❤️
