As a relative to a resident who resides at United Mennonite Home, I must leave this review in order to express how TERRIBLE and DISGRACEFUL this home has turned into. And to anyone who has family living here, PLEASE READ THIS:
All of the caring and compassionate staff members have recently been getting fired for things which are not in their job description. Full-time nurses do not listen to staff members when they bring resident concerns forward with illness symptoms - This why the Blossom unit and Harbour unit currently have COVID-19 positives, and when I asked a nurse regarding the percentage of COVID positives, the only response I received was "there's lots".
There has been such a high turnover of PSWs lately, even ones that are phenomenal with the residents seem to be gone. Some days when you walk down the hallways, you can feel the tension and you can hear the complaints out in the parking lot too. What is management doing to ensure they have a great team out on the floors? It appears as though they have it backwards - keeping toxicity in and blocking out the sunshine. You can hear residents screaming and fighting from behind closed doors as PSWs are staying calm and pleading with the resident to allow them to help. You can also hear staff members talking among themselves and with registered staff trying to get medications to help with said residents. It sounds to me that these situations are not new and have fallen on the deaf ears of management. Maybe the staff at this point are too exhausted or afraid to keep going to management for help.
There is a relatively lazy nurse named Ashley, who has been spotted on numerous occasions playing around on her cell phone not attending to residents when the residents should come first and foremost. Is this what our Healthcare system has come to these days? How are these people even employed? Management should further investigate all of these employees who are left to make sure they are doing their job PROPERLY and not cutting corners just to make their workload lighter.
Residents wait HOURS for underwear changes and sit in their own filth with this new health care model which has been implemented. Residents also do not get proper hand hygiene care and the staff are no better about it either. What ever happen to a clean and sanitary Healthcare enviroment? This is how germs and sickness is spread. I would think the employees should have learned this through their schooling - if not through life experience and common sence!
Staff members are not properly protected with proper personal protective equipment either. There must be a shortage of PPE, which puts both staff members AND all residents at a high risk of COVID infection. Residents also do not get medication on time. Medications get signed off but not given until hours after it should. PRN pain medication does not get given, even when the residents are begging for it. This is total neglect and a classic definition of elder abuse!!!
My family member's wounds do not get tended too as often as they should either, which could lead to amputation. There also doesn't seem to be the proper staffing to ensure high fall risk residents have someone to ensure their safety, which has recently caused an unfortunate death.
This long term Healthcare home should be fully investigated by government officials, and all of the incompetent staff members who fail to do their job properly should be fired immediately!! This is a down right sickening experience my loved one has gone through, and I hope this review gets through to other resident family members!
May God bless all the residents of United Mennonite, because they need as many blessings as they can receive with all of the neglect going on.
