My Dad was admitted to HHS on Thursday, February 8, 2024 and was transferred to the Satellite Health Facility in March 2024 (4th Floor HHS). He discharged to LTC in November 2024. The staff were absolutely amazing and very compassionate and caring.
I can’t say enough as to how wonderful they were. Though I know the food wasn’t as good as homemade but that’s not unusual in the healthcare system. The room was always clean as were the hallways and elevators.
Thank you again to the staff on the 4th floor for taking such great care of my Dad

My dad was admitted to HHS on Dec. 13 2024 and transferred to Satellite Health Care facility 4th floor on Jan 16 2025, from there transferred to LTC Mar. 18 2025. I wanted to thank Rosa of admin for guiding me through the health care system, she is so knowledgeable, Angela (she is an angel in disguise) and the therapy team, the patients are lucky to have them, all the nurses, PSW’s, volunteers, cleaning staff, security and the Doctors for there compassionate care they gave my dad while he was at the facility. I was hesitant to have my dad there after reading all the negative reviews, let me alleviate any major concerns, I can only speak of the 4th floor, everyone went above and beyond.

Although my mother was only on the 5th floor for two weeks it was a very positive experience. All the staff members were very kind and caring both with my mom and with our family as we navigated our way through her recovery journey.

I have come back to edit my review. its been 2 years since my dad went to meet Zeus. his blood gods. ❤ jk. he was very orthodox. any ways. This place lives rent free in my head, and you have to know why. i have alot to say about this place, get ready
it is still an absolutely horrible place for an elderly person (who is clearly dying, and soon) to be sent to. i don't know how it is even legal to have this kind of mixed "waiting" building operational the floor he was on had many different characters. i think my dad was the only one with his type of condition, situation. you know. 80, suffering from both dementia, Alzheimer's. 24 hr care. the rest of the floor was other mental illnesses but able bodied. it was odd he was sent to a living facility like that. but you know, TRUST OUR DOCTORS... RIGHT!

my elderly dad with his severe illnesses, had a UTI left untreated and unmedicated for almost a week. we complained daily. didn't matter...it causes psychosis in the elderly. one of the days I found him half on the floor with bed alarm off. moaning loud from pain and also simply the fact that he fell or something happened, ...psw and nurses had nothing to say. just "we dont know how that happened" his room mate told me he moves around at night alot, and falls off bed... he ratted them out, and i thank him very much, he even knew it was mistreatment, know what they did? they put a crash mat on the floor next to bed, and turned his bed alarm off. this was all within a week. i feel st joes sends elderly people here to die, and tell the families thats where they send elderly who arent in need of medicine to wait for their placement to come up for the MEDICALLY assisted home we were waiting for. he absolutely needed treatment regularly. but alas.. st joes needed the bed more. from the moment they told our family he was being transferred there, (I have never seen st joes move so fast) he was gone and in this place within the hour....so, an 80yr old man suffering from dementia AND alzheimer's, on a restricted diet, and had an untreated UTI before they sent him, he cant walk without assistance, also, needed 24hr care. cant talk, BUT didn't need anymore "medicine"so off he went. we all knew what was coming, and we knew it was soon, but sending him there was not the way i pictured my fathers last few weeks being like. they are absolutely terrible. the staff was always mad. at everything. and everyone. they weren't ready for my family coming daily in shifts everyday. so we caught alot of the mistreatment that was going on. a week later i got a call at around 7am saying hes unresponsive, " what should we do" CALL AMBULANCE. ffs. back to st joes, hospice. I spent 20 hrs a day there, on that couch, in that hospice with him to make sure everyone treated him like he deserved.
the living conditions are atrocious. its a filthy place and the patients walk around, go in whatever room they want and do what they want. so many times other patients were coming in and out while we were there, i couldn't imagine how much it happened at night. workers don't pay attention, or care. i dont know who decided to turn this old hotel into a hell hole, but it was definately put together for soneone to make money.
if you are being told they are sending a loved one there, please i beg you do whatever you can to avoid it. its disgusting. the employee's are terrible, its almost like they send the bad employees there, out of site out of mind we were all overwhelmed as a family during all this, i look back and wish i went to look at the place before he went. I would have fought them and demand he stay where he was. shame on the nurses and psws that work there. I don't understand how anyone can be so cold to ill, elderly people dying. shame on st joes for lying about this place. taking advantage of a distraught family. I refuse to believe they dont know how that place is run. I know this is a long read, but people need to know. I'd give zero stars if I could.

My father is presently on 4th floor, excellent nursing, they go above and beyond. I was wary about his placement but found nothing but excellent care. The floor is very clean and I'm more then happy with the care my father is given. I see my father everyday and he has expressed how well he is treated.Thank you 4th floor

Absolute disgrace. This place is like a 1930's Eastern European psychiatric asylum. Straight from a horror movie. The living conditions are abhorrent. The staff is indifferent at best. And the word "care" is forbidden and snickered at. No one will do anything outside the bare minimum of showing up to work, and then leaving in the evening. I've seem better facilities in Cambodia, where at least the staff care.

All we can do now is wait for the hidden camera exposé to come out, then watch the showcase public inquiry into the abysmal living conditions, while all Canadians say to themselves "wow, I couldn't image a place like that existing in this country. pretty bad eh.". Well it does exist! And it should be shut down immediately and all the staff need to be retrained and reeducated in the care system, because 'care' does not exist! Go there only if you plan dying a quick death. Because every day of life in this place is hell.

The personal support staff and nurses don't seem to care. If you call for help, the staff will allow the patient to wait hours even if you need help going to the bathroom. It shouldn't take hours to be able to relieve yourself. Unacceptable.

If I could give them minus 5 stars, I would but I guess I have to settle for 1 star. I refused to take my mom to see her sister, from what I heard and read about this place. My mom would never get that image out of her head, she would most likely have a mental breakdown and nightmares. I'm surprised there hasn't been many lawsuits against the operators of this facility.
I doubt Premier Ford would ever allow one of his loved ones to stay in such a facility. From the pictures I've seen, why is the health department not investigating the condition and writing them up?
It appears by the photos they are breaking many violations. I think The National, Global all the news outlets, newspapers should do a detail reporting on this facility. My suggestion to anyone that has the misfortune of having one of their loved ones having to stay in this so called health facility I would invest in a nanny camera, because they are obviously not getting the care they need and rightfully deserve.
I pray for all those patients that they will be moved soon to ACTUAL HEALTH CARE facility. No one in our country should have to suffer in these terrible conditions.
All I have to say to those in charge and make decisions about the running of this facility, one day you will be old and you
may find yourself as a patient. I'm not one to believe in Karma but in this case I hope you get it back ten fold.
I put the blame on Ford and his PC party. He and his party has permanently lost my vote.
Why isn' the mayor and local politicians doing anything about these conditions? Shame on all of you!
