Nurses and Doctors are great here. Volunteers sometimes around who can help you register and get around. Parking is expensive. Layout inside the hospital is very confusing. Reception seems to be annoyed with people all the time. Stores in the lobby are overpriced. Emergency is overwhelmed. Mostly full of people not using the Health Care System improperly. Pharmacies, clinics and urgent care centers are there for you to use too.

I recently had the incredible experience of delivering my baby at the Women and Babies’ Unit at St. Catharines Hospital, and I couldn’t be more grateful for the exceptional care I received. From the moment I arrived, the professionalism and compassion of the doctors and nurses stood out. They were attentive, supportive, and clearly very skilled, ensuring that the entire process was smooth and stress-free.
What impressed me most was how efficiently everything was handled. The team worked seamlessly to ensure a quick and safe delivery, all while making me feel comfortable and reassured. Their calming presence and clear communication made a potentially overwhelming experience truly positive.
I am deeply thankful for the outstanding care provided by this amazing team. They turned what could have been a stressful day into one filled with confidence and joy. I highly recommend the Women and Babies’ Unit at St. Catharines Hospital to any expectant mother seeking compassionate and expert care.

My partner came in by ambulance last week with a brain aneurysm.
My son was well taken care of because of the incredible desk staff who brought him things to stay busy. However, that is where the quality care ends in this hospital.
After waiting 2.5 hours in a chair with many symptoms of a possible aneurysm, she was finally given a bed, only to wait another 1.25 hours to see the doctor.
After being sent for a CT scan, she was left in the hallway, and her paperwork was lost, so she never got the scan. She mentioned it to the lady who wheeled her there, but she didn't care—we were just another number and were wheeled back. Forty-five minutes later, a CT scan was actually done, and the doctor confirmed the aneurysm and brain bleed.
She was then moved to another bed, and we were told they were calling Hamilton. They can't do anything in Neuroscience in St. Catharines, so an automatic transfer should have happened, but welcome to Niagara, where common sense isn't always top of mind. Instead, they waited because the surgeon was in surgery all day.
She is now in Hamilton, receiving the greatest care after 12-plus hours of being told it's out of their "wheelhouse." We are fortunate to have survived the death trap that is Niagara Health.

One of the worst experiences I've had with a hospital, I waited almost 11 hours just to not even see a doctor. One of the nurses at the registry got snotty with me when I'd asked how much longer, going on about how other patients had been waiting 12 hours, which is untrue and incredibly disgusting for her to say. All I was there for was a prescription, and I chose to walk out because of the excessive wait time and rude workers instead of getting my life saving medication. Do better, you're a hospital for crying out loud.

No matter if I have mental health or physical health is there any reason for neglect in a hospital. I had a situation where I needed a physical doctor. But they never let me have one I was there a whole month asking for a checkup because I was dangerously assaulted prior to my visit yet not one of them had the time to call the doctor and give me a checkup. I was in there for a whole different reason and now I'm back at home and I'm still in pain because other medical offices still won't get me checked out. By the way I had a broken elbow broken ribs shattered spine cracked skull and one hell of a fourth concussion.
Still no doctor after a month visit. It's like they don't even believe me. I walk like the guy from the nursery rhyme with a crooked Kane in the crooked house that's how I have to walk.

I went to the Emergency department yesterday afternoon around 12:30pm. The charge nurse, triage nurse and the lady behind the registration desk were amazing and very helpful. However after an 6 hour wait I was finally able to be taken back to be seen by a doctor. After waiting another hour and a half I was finally seen by Dr. Nick! After Dr. Nick examined me he determined that I had a possible torn rotator cuff but he wasn’t able to verify because apparently St. Catharine’s hospital doesn’t have the capability to perform a Musculoskeletal ultrasound. He then told me to follow up with my family doctor to get her to refer me for an ultrasound on my shoulder & bicep area. His bedside manner is absolutely horrible and he genuinely has NO TIME for the patients he sees! He told me that an xray won’t show anything if it is in fact a torn rotator cuff so he was just going to give me pain killers and send me home. After Dr. Nick left the room I was sent over to wait for an xray by Dr. Derek- still no pain killers were given to me at this time. I went for my xray, came back and was finally given the pain meds. 10 minutes later Dr. Nick pulls me aside(in the hallway) and asks if the meds have kicked in after I told him I was only given them 10 minutes ago he said okay well they will kick in shortly. He sent me home with a referral to a sports specialist in Thorold and told me it’s about 6-8 weeks for me to hear from them.
During this whole time waiting I over heard the doctors talking about how many patients they had seen in a span of 4 hours- instead of complaining about the number of patients you have seen in a short period of time how about working on your bedside manner!
This hospital is absolutely the worst hospital I have ever been to and I dread going here when I need to. I called my family doctor this morning and the receptionist laughed at the fact that a hospital doesn’t have the capability to perform a Musculoskeletal ultrasound.

I got nothing against the nurses and staff that are overworked/understaffed here but the wait times to be seen are terrible, you wait 5-6hours to just wait in another waiting room for 1 hour till you get a room and then not seen for another 2 hours. They should be ashamed of making people wait for so long and suffering. Honestly get a better system going or hire more people. On top of that the bedside manner of most of the nurse are garbage because most of them are only their for a paycheck and to sit at their nursing station ?

I would just like to say a HUGE thank you to St.Catharines General Hospital Emergency staff and doctors.
On Thursday October 17th 2024 my mother went into emergency due to chest pain and moments after arriving suffered cardiac arrest in the emergency waiting area.
She was 30 min without vitals and rushed to Hamilton Hospital.
Because the doctors, nurses and EMS performed CPR tirelessly for that 30 min and got her to Hamilton fast is why she is still alive and without brain damage.
Our family is beyond grateful and happy to report she is off life support and breathing on her own.
We are grateful for the fast response of all medical staff.
The doctor said she’s alive and has a chance because they continued CPR and didn’t give up.
Thank you for saving our mom!!!
