I love the doctors at this clinic, but to be honest my experience has not been the best with their administration. The COVAX situation during COVID was one thing. But when I tried to get a referral to CHEO and was apparently put on a waiting list for several months, following up periodically with seemingly no issues. After over 6 months of being on this waitlist, imagine my surprise when I get call saying that I was never on the waitlist, and the clinic had never had the correct contact information for department I was trying to get a referral to. On top of that, the waitlist was now closed to new applicants. Absolutely infuriating and has significantly set back the care I have been waiting patiently to get. They did help with next steps, however the damage is done and I hope it was a wake up call to get their things together, because this was fully preventable especially with the amount of times I followed up to make sure things were in order.

I was excited when I first saw an Inuit specific health service right here in Ottawa, however after seeing how they treated my mother, I will not be using this clinic, I would rather go and wait hours at the urgent care clinic or hospital

I cannot say enough positive things about this clinic. The doctors I have dealt with have been exceptional. I moved to this clinic as my family doctor when I lost my family doctor in Kanata but in hindsight that was a good thing. Has been worth the drive downtown for appointments.

I called to book a test and they were able to give me an appointment the same day. Very fast, professional and friendly service. Highly recommend. Disappointing to see this clinic is getting so many 1 stars just because it only serves the Indigenous community. No, it is not discriminatory, they have limited resources and there are many other test centres open to the public. Thank you Akusivik for your awesome services.

After reading the comments and visiting. I will say this. I was lucky and fortunate enough to be invited to receive my vaccine along side my husband because we work at a covid isolation center to help keep Nunavut safe from covid. We were received with welcome arms and everyone was extremely pleasant. This is the first time Iv walked into a clinic in Ottawa and the nurse was actually happy to see us and were kind. This center is for indigenous peoples and anyone who has anything negative to say about that, you need to rethink. There are other centers for you to go to. True it says "Testing for all patients". That means people that are set up with the clinic. First nation's people. If you want to accuse of racism, you need to research the history of how this country and its people have treated our first nation's people. We owe a lot more than we could ever apologize for. If you came here and were turned away, you should have called the number and asked if you were eligible first. Or checked the name of the clinic itself. It is not their fault. On behalf of my husband and I, thank you to this wonderful clinic of staff for making a quiet and calm environment. We waited with the wonderful Dr. Chow. Happy to return for our second dose soon. 🙂

As an Inuk woman having access to this place outside of Nunavut is great. Akausivik has a wonderful, helpful, friendly team and I love my family Doctor there who goes above and beyond for me and my family. When she's not there I also have great confidence in the other doctors who are available when she is not. Akausivik gives priority to the Inuit community but they also provide care for non-Inuit who are spouses or a parent of an Inuit individual who goes there which is amazing.

I called this place to get help with figuring out a missing red and white health card conundrum. They were exceptional and very helpful. I do however take issue with reserving medical attention(covid testing) for a specific ethnic group. I'm aware I'm treading through risky waters here but I do think all of us here in Ontario are contributing to the medical system and we should not be allowed to exclude people from it. I do understand there are a plethora of complex social and psychological reasons for having exclusivity in this area but it might be nice, during this time when testing centers are overburdened, for the managers of this medical team to open up the covid testing capabilities to everyone as a way of lending a hand. I mean no insult at all I'm just trying to say during this pandemic it would be nice to maybe set aside these differences when it comes to medical issues.

Just reading some more reviews. It seems clear this is a point of animosity for others. You should open up to test everyone. This discrimination is not doing good things for your reputation. And I mean that to be constructive criticism not as a selfish complaint.

Not sure what's going on with this clinic, used to be a helpful place. Wasted valuable time booking recurring appointments. Then when I showed up, suddenly no appointment. The "culturally sensitive" service was nonexistent with no explanation.
