This place was where I was finally able to learn and implement the strategies that helped me stop destroying my life and start building a life that I no longer wanted to destroy. They accepted and loved me not just until I could love myself, but also past the point of me finding purpose and joy in my life.

I still, by choice, spend a lot of my free time visiting the centre. The relationships that I’ve built, the food I’ve been fed, the clothes that have been put on my back, I can’t imagine a life where I didn’t face the hardships I was facing, because they inevitably led me to this house, and I wouldn’t wish to live a life where I hadn’t been led to this house.

Above all, I have immense gratitude for Alpha House’s services being both LGBTQ+ friendly and trauma informed. These were barriers that I’d faced in the past when trying to access treatment, and at Alpha House, this wasn’t even a question. I immediately knew that I was safe, loved, and supported here. I went from a shell of a person who was petrified of other people, to someone who is able to learn and grow from constructive criticism without feeling threatened or unsafe.

My life has changed in ways I never could’ve imagined when I thought there was no hope for me. I’ve seen many success stories come out of this house over the last couple of years, and I’ve also seen a few cases where people left without feeling as positively impacted as I was. But if you’re at a place where you feel like your life is over, you haven’t got much to lose. Give Alpha House a call. There’s a seat at the table next to any of us, and I hope I get to meet you soon.
