I went to Shaver as an outpatient for rehab after my knee replacement surgery. Caleb (and Avalon who was also fantastic!) is an exceptional Physiotherapist! He is very knowledgeable, professional and caring. I have a background in fitness, and he challenged and encouraged me weekly to meet my goals. He listened patiently to my endless questions and always gave great suggestions that I implemented in my program. You are in great hands with Caleb! I am doing so much better this post op. Very grateful and thrilled with my progress.

The hospita is exceptionally clean
Such a contrast to the hospita in St Catharines and Niagara Falls.
The staff (with very few exceptions), are hard-working and kind. Their positive attitude certainly helps the healing process .
By the way, the food is actually good....especially in comparison to hospital food.

I would never recommend this place to my worst enemy the lack of compassion empathy respect and care my mom got while she was there was really sickening. All the nurses if you want to call them that aren’t there to help they are there for the pay check. If I can go back I would never have put my mom there. They abused my mom in the sense that they ignored her didn’t help when she called and didn’t feed her when she needed to be fed. Instead they decide to sedate her to keep her quiet. I will never forget the night I unexpectedly dropped in to see her her food in front of her and the empty glazed look in her eyes. I voiced my concerns to the nurse in charge and the doctor there and all they said was she’s old. The rehabilitation part of the hospital was great they did what they could for mom which we will always be grateful for. Please find an alternate hospital to put your loved one in I don’t want another family to go through what my family had to go through.

I feel privileged to have been able to have my dear mother stay for two weeks in Shavers palliative care until her passing last month. I am touched by the outstanding sincere compassion we both received during this emotional and difficult time. My mother was treated like royalty by all the staff, and this made the sad experience a form of loving last time for my mother and me. The chaplains, Laura K and Sister were caring spiritual angels for my dying mother, and they spent so much time reading to her and reassuring her. Dr G. Arvinte’s patient, understanding, tender way of caring for my mother brought tears to my eyes, and her knowledge and communication skills in explaining to me were so impressive. She was so personable, sincere and thorough thus leading a wonderful example for all the palliative staff. Also, I appreciated being able to get ice and hot water for my mother on my own. I am deeply grieving my mother’s passing, but I am grateful that everyone at Shavers helped me to keep the memory positive. Thank you to all of you. I admire your care.

The walls of this rehabilitation centre regurgitate the importance of compassionate care and yet the institution treats situations with so much staunch opposition and cold indignity. For a hospice centred in the Catholic faith we were shocked at the lack of hospitality and compassion from many of the management. And, lack of care from many of the rude nurses.
If you’ve faced unimaginable situations with this place you are not alone.

Two years after my moms passing and thinking of this place and her treatment here makes my stomach turn.

Please heed the negative reviews on this page. They are true and transparent. Send your loved ones anywhere else.

Thank you to the wonderful staff in 2W. My mother's stay was brief, but the attention she received was truly outstanding. Hats off to the staff. You made her last days as comfortable as possible.
Thank you again.

In my initial review I had given 2 stars and below you can read what my initial thoughts were. I feel it is pertinent as I am sure many people have their doubts when initially placing their parents or family members in such care. Well It has now been 3 months and I have changed my review to 4 stars. With the aid of some exceptional nurses, the comraderie between the patients and the drive of the physiotherapists to make her well, as well as the social activities put in place, she has adjusted well and has come to be well taken care of. There are still a few things that had concerned me but with the help of family and some wonderful night nurses we were able to address them. Overall, I do see the benefits and how great the place is. Of course there will be nice nurses and less nice nurses as there are people. The food also, I believe could be better and healthier but its a cost and numbers issue I understand. Overall I am please with her progress and with a few of the nurses. In particular Angelica, shows such humanity, such kindness and such patience with her elderly patients. She is truly a wonderful nurse and caregiver. Thank you for taking wonderful care of my mother. We are looking forward to having her home soon!

I'm not quite sure what to think of this place. I also feel like my mom is being neglected. She's older, has a language barrier and she had to go to the bathroom and none of the nurses stopped to ask her if she needed help. Then the one time they were rude when she had to go. I don't find her physio is helping much. Hard to help when it's once a day in the morning and not on weekends. It's like they want to keep her in there. Her air conditioning is on so high that she could get pnemonia, noone has dared turn it down or ask her and she has four blankets on plus one covering the AC. I have an uneasy feeling about the place, from the smell going in to what I've seen so far. Being there I have seen 2 nurses come in to talk to my mom in almost a week that I've been there. They have also looked at me weird when visiting. I seriosuly do not get a good vibe here for elderly mothers. It is true they have many patients but I seriously do not know how the rounds work. I haven even been able to ask questions. I ahve to walk down the shall and stop them mid walking to ask information because I rarely see a nurse come into my mom's room, except to deal with the woman who does have cancer. 🙁 I also noticed there was feedback on a positive comment but no responses to anyone who had unpleasant experiences. That is also odd to me. We were told to feel blessed my mother's in there but I am not seeing much different care than she had at the former hospital. Maybe still too early to tell.
