Commendation for Dr. Alexandra Uzelac's Exceptional Care

I am writing to express my sincere appreciation for the exceptional care provided by Dr. Alexandra Uzelac to my sister during her recent medical treatment. Dr. Uzelac's professionalism, expertise, and compassionate approach have made a significant difference in my sister's health journey.

From the moment my sister was under Dr. Uzelac's care, we were impressed by her thoroughness and dedication. She took the time to listen attentively to my sister's concerns and ensured that she received the best possible treatment. Dr. Uzelac's commitment to providing personalized care and her in-depth knowledge of the medical field truly set her apart.

Not only did Dr. Uzelac demonstrate remarkable medical skills, but she also showed genuine empathy and kindness towards my sister, which helped alleviate much of the anxiety associated with her medical condition. Her ability to connect with patients on a personal level is truly commendable and has made a lasting impact on our family.

I attended the emergency department with my daughter in law and her baby. We were triaged quickly by a nurse that was straight to the point with questions and examination. We then were taken to a bed at the back within a reasonable time frame. When my daughter in law requested our little guy be hooked up to a monitor the nurses responded kindly and quickly. We met several medical staff and emergency doctors during our stay and they all treated us with kindness and answered all the questions we asked. I highly recommend McMaster Children’s Hospital.

I feel completely misled and taken advantage of during one of the most stressful times in my life.

My daughter was admitted to this hospital and we were placed in a semi-private room without our request or consent. Over 36 hours later, a staff member handed me a form, presenting it as an insurance claim. While my daughter was in surgery and I was caring for another child, I signed it, believing it had nothing to do with choosing or requesting a room.

I even indicated on the form that I preferred a ward room if a semi-private one wasn’t available, clearly showing I was trying to avoid additional charges.

Later, I received a bill. The finance department admitted it is their responsibility to explain the process—but this was never done. Instead, I was left with a charge I never knowingly agreed to.

This experience has seriously damaged my trust in the hospital’s administrative practices. Patients and families deserve clarity, honesty, and compassion—not to be misled during moments of vulnerability.

Dr. Carlos Galhardo is an anesthesiologist who has severed my lingual frenulum during a gynaecological surgery at McMaster Children’s Hospital in March. Despite well over 3 weeks post-surgery, there has been no apology or nor call from him or his team for the damage he has done. It has been over 3 weeks of being unable to eat or drink or speak properly. I have been on unpaid leave due to being unable to work for the last three weeks. I have reached out to patient services many times for well over 3 weeks about their supposed “investigation” and have not gotten any proper reply nor have they contacted my father to apologize for what they have done to me. I am extremely disappointed that they are willing to make their patients suffer like this and not listen to concerns. Being a Muslim minority, this feels personal as other concerns from my non-Muslim peers have been addressed. l hope no one has to suffer like this. I am very disappointed and hurt by the hospital staff for their lack of response and the anesthesiologist and his team for not reaching out. A doctor should protect patients, not make them suffer.

Due to my twin pregnancy I was being seen at mcmasters mfm clinic for all prenatal care. I eventually developed preeclampsia and was admitted to the women's health unit until I delivered my girls. Every single nurse in that unit went above and beyond during my stay. I am so thankful for each one of the nurses that cared for me during my 2 week stay especially Adele who always had a positive attitude and was always extremely friendly. When I finally was being induced the nurses in labour and delivery took the time to explain to me what was happening each step of the way. They made me feel comfortable and safe as I was extremely nervous this being my first pregnancy. My nurse Sydney was an absolute godsend and I couldn't be more thankful for the care she provided me while in labour. I was ready to deliver just as shift change was starting and she made sure to stay with us until I got wheeled out and was on my way to the OR. There was another nurse (blonde) and I can't remember her name but she came in a few times to help find my babies on the monitor. Right before delivery they had a hard time finding one of my babies heart beats. She saw how nervous I was getting and reassured me that my baby was fine and she had just moved positions. The compassion and care all the nurses at this hospital provide did not go unnoticed during my stay. I will forever be grateful for everyone who cared for me and my babies. Thank you again to everyone in woman's health unit and all the labour and deliver nurses working on April 7/8 2025.

We always have an amazing experience at this hospital. The doctors are outstanding—professional, knowledgeable, and genuinely caring. They take the time to answer all my questions and ensure I fully understand everything. The staff is friendly and efficient, making each visit smooth and stress-free. I truly appreciate the excellent care I receive here for my kids and highly recommend this hospital to anyone in need of quality medical attention

Very disappointing experience during a night/overnight visit to McMaster Children’s Hospital (wait was approximately 8 hrs long!) Compassionate care from the overnight nursing staff was severely lacking, they do not know how to properly handle and comfort children - troubling for a children’s hospital. Basic manners were completely absent. When mistakes were made, not once did anyone acknowledge them or offer an apology. Behaviour and competence fell far below what should be expected especially in a children’s hospital.
