We recently had our family member transferred there to the Palliative care unit. As this is a difficult time for our family, the staff there made the transition easy. We met with the nursing staff and discussed needs for our family member as well as other information like contact numbers. The staff are so friendly and kept asking if , we ourselves needed anything. Also the facility is bright, cheerful but calming and peaceful. It feels like home. We were so lucky and fortunate to have gotten a bed. Bless all the staff for their hard work, dedication and most of all compassion.

It's not exactly what I imagined, but the nurses were so wonderful for the most part.. Dr.Soloman was an exceptional dr who took care of our mother in her final days..he was very supportive and he listened...and just made things really clear. I'm so thankful we chose St.peters...it was the right decision. It can use a remodeling it feels Uber outdated the ppl at st peters deserve a revamp. Thank you. This is the last view my mom ever had outside.. and we shared it together everyday and night for as long as we could. .. it was beautiful I'll cherish those memories we had

My mother was there a few weeks, cancer in the body took her life very quickly.. I found Dr. Jordan and his staff of nurses (level 3)and cleaners absolutely wonderful. There are some really messed up people in there and I can imagine how hard it must be to have many dying people depend on you for so much. Yes it's a job, but these people have feelings and their own issues too like everyone else.
I found them to be vary attentive and caring. I was there all day everyday they still would come in to have lil chats with her or just double check everything and ask if she was ok even tho they knew my mom preferred me to do most things for her. The negative review below is shocking since I never saw any kind of neglect at all.
I will say bed alarms do go off for quite a few min. Sometimes, but I did see all nurses actively doing something they couldn't just abandon at that vary moment. Its important to remember they arnt super heroes..( although in some ways i totally believe they could be 🙂 They don't just sit around talking all day so I felt comfortable enough to leave my mom overnight .
Thank you to those of u reading this who helped take care of penny watt ❤️ I appreciate each of you for your kind hearts 💕 💞

My father (now passed) has been here for a few months now, first for rehab and then for palliative care and I confirm that he absolutely could not receive the care, dignity, respect and love that he has received here at any other hospital in the world. I am eternally grateful for the nurses, doctors and staff here (2 West) who have been taking care of him selflessly in the twilight of his life 🙏♥️

Ignore the poor reviews that you read here as some people will complain about anything without putting themselves in the shoes of the constantly stressed caregivers. Have a heart people.

The staff is very caring and you have access to Physio and a regular doctor. Is your doctor and follows your case and works with you occupational therapy and physiotherapy for both available as a patient. The problem I have is everyone’s always just too busy. I’ll press my call and I’ll be stuck in my chair for 40 minutes while I wait for a nurse to come just to hand me something I can’t reach by then my legs are asleep and I’m only stlf the same thing. Oh we’re just really busy today I’ll get it. Every rehearsal is busy, but it’s very hard on me. I have to do that. for the most part, the staff here are wonderful. They are just too busy. They have gone out of their way for me a few times for that I am grateful so if you don’t mind having to wait a long time anytime you need a nurse then you’ll probably be OK here.

My father came to St. Peter’s on October 22nd and was greeted by Nurse Jenna. She was his nurse for his first two days. My father was deaf and his cancer had made him immobile. We expressed our wishes, needs and his restrictions, and Jenna listened and put everything into action for us. Jenna took it upon herself to learn sign language to communicate with my father, was gentle and kind. Jenna later was his nurse again in what would be his final two days Nov 2&3. Again, Jenna was beyond compassionate and caring not only in how she cared for my dad but how she delivered news to our family and continually checked in with us. She stayed late because she cared to ensure we were okay. When she left she said her goodbyes to my dad as well. I cry every time I think about Jenna because I know my dad always felt cared for, respected and safe in her care and I’m very grateful we had her for his first days, and his last days.

Jenna, if you read this, you have truly found your calling and our family is so grateful to have met you. Anyone in your care will be so lucky. We wish you all the best.

Beautiful facility, awesome staff, real-time doctors who are very knowledgeable. Very family oriented with 24/7 visitation. Don't believe you could find a better place during a difficult time.

My grandmother is currently at St. Peter's 3rd floor, palliative care unit
Unfortunately my grandmother was not able to get into a hospice they sent her here. 98% of staff should not be working here. They have zero compassion, they treat their patients with zero dignity. My grandmother is 95 with dementia full of cancer. I could not believe the absolute rudeness most of these nurses have not only to patients but to the patient's family members. I have been taking multiple trips from Ottawa down to Hamilton every second weekend to visit my grandmother. Every time
within minutes of stepping into the room I either go to the desk or ring the bell as my grandmother will either need to be repositioned or diaper is full, that has obviously been ignored or unattended to for a long time. I was there for 4 hours the other day. Not one nurse came to check on my grandmother, to make sure she ate her meals or even simply tried to give her a drink of water to make sure she is hydrated
I questioned the nurses on several different occasions as to why she is not receiving proper medical attention and multiple other concerns from the care that she was receiving. She's at end of life and being treated with zero dignity. With a heavy heart, every day as I cannot be there all of the time, it really hurts my heart to think and imagine that my grandma is just laying there not receiving the proper care that she should be receiving especially at this point in life.
There is just way too much to write in a post with all the wrong doing here, peer lack of respect and compassion
I hope whoever is reading my review will take this seriously . If you're thinking about putting your loved one in St. Peter's care. Please think again and do whatever you can possible to make sure they go somewhere else. It has been gut wrenching experience and hurts my heart to know, every time I am there and especially when I leave that my grandma sits there hours upon end without any nurses attending to her needs or making sure that she is hydrated or even breathing. It's absolutely disgusting what I have witnessed. So I can't imagine when I'm not there what's going on
Just before I left to come back to Ottawa the other day her bed sensor went off. It was going off for approximately 4 to 5 minutes and then
I hit the handheld device for the emergency alarm to go off. After several minutes of nobody coming, I started videotaping and approximately 4 to 5 minutes after I started to video tape, approximately 7 to 8 minutes after total with the emergency alarms going off, nurses finally came into the room. She could have been choking she could have fell endless scenarios. It could have been a real bad emergency but without any nurses, Coming to check for several minutes is absolutely unacceptable. This hospital should be looked into there is no professionalism. Most of the nurses I find working on this unit are very young simply there for a paycheck please keep in mind this is NOT all the nurses. There was one nurse in particular that was amazing.
Her name was Karen if they could all be like her would make this place so much better.
