Telfer Place Retirement Residence

My father has been a resident in assisted living at Telfer Place for a little over one year. The facilities are clean and bright. The meals are varied, nutritious and nicely presented. The true strength of Telfer Place, however, is its kind, patient, caring staff. The residents are encouraged to participate in the many social activities offered by happy, attentive staff members. Nursing care is excellent and friendly. Communication is consistent and timely. There is a "good feeling" throughout the residence. We have no hesitation in highly recommending Telfer Place.

My wife's grandmother has lived at Telfer Place for 5 years now and throughout that period, we have been very pleased with the care and compassion she receives there. The Executive Director, Darlene Barber, has demonstrated herself as a very strong leader throughout the current pandemic and we have felt very comforted by their approach and genuine concern for the residents while still trying to balance the family's needs to visit in a safe manner(whether in person when permitted, window visits when the weather is decent, or virtual zoom meetings). Thank you to both management and staff for the great job you are doing in serving the needs of the residents, but also doing your best to simultaneously balance the needs of the family.

Not Happy here .. either is my father who has been in LTC for about a year now. To date staff have lost 2 pair of hearing aids at $3000 a pr. This home will not accept responsibility and this is even after a procedure was put in place after first pr gone. Care and well being starts with good mental health which seems to be diminishing Update .. Telfer has reimbursed us for the cost of hearing aids

Telfer was an ideal place for our 3 parents. The fact that Telfer has 4 distinct wings with different levels of independence or care makes it unique. Yet all wings are connected via a grand atrium, which means you can visit any area without the need to go outside. My in-laws were the first to move into the tower 8 years ago. My mother followed a couple of years later. She eventually moved into the assisted living wing for the final couple of years of her life. My father-in-law eventually went into the nursing home wing in his final year. This ability to transition from one wing to another made the adjustment much easier for them, as they were already familiar with their surroundings, were happy with meals, staff and programming. For us as family, it made life much easier being able to go to only one place for visits; and for my mother-in-law, visiting her husband in nursing care, was only a walk from one wing to another. It's a shame that more buildings are not designed with such forethought. Again, staff has been caring and wonderful, and we recommend Telfer as a place to consider.

The moment you walk in here you feel like this could be home. The front line staff work so hard to make everyone feel cared for and even loved! Telfer Place took such great care of my Mom during her last 8 months. My Mom smiled everyday! They helped us understand how to transition with all her changes in her decline, brightening our days too. Their facility is great for couples bc if 1 declines & has to go to assisted care or long term, the other partner can still be close by to share the time they have together, which is best for everyone. Meal plans are available too. The staff even come find you when it’s time to take your meds, wherever you might want to be! Telfer staff have helped my whole family make many lifestyle changes, although sometimes bumpy, 95% of the staff go above & beyond. This facility tries hard to treat all seniors and their families with respect, during very difficult times, making all our days easier & more fun! Thank you for this! My Dad has been very happy there too! No place is perfect; 3 suggestions would be improve the fitness Centre for those still moving independently & encourage it’s use to help maintain/improve mobility, address maintenance/ issues promptly & keep working on improving the food quality/ variety. They deserve it! Overall, a great facility, a friendly environment, lots of activities & entertainment, hard working staff with big hearts. We are lucky to have Telfer Place here in Paris.

We visit our Uncle Gavin who is a resident at Telfer Place Retirement Complex. We are amazed with the activity in the beautiful atrium, very bright and welcoming. This area provides a comfortable spot for residents and visitors to work on puzzles, play cards or just sit and relax with a refreshment and chat with residents. The atrium also offers a number of other activities such as concerts, church services and vendors selling wares. If you like to sing, they have a Telfer choir that puts on 2 concerts a year. There are people from outside Telfer that volunteer to help with the choir. They have an exercise room, exercise classes, hair salon, there is not much you need from outside that isn't offered in Telfer. Joanne Forrest, Lifestyle Consultant was very helpful when we first moved Uncle Gavin and his wife Rita to Telfer Place. She was quick to followup to our questions and needs and she continues to be a great support person, someone you can rely on. Also Mary is the first person you meet at the front desk, she is also helpful when certain staff members are not available and pleasant to talk to. Uncle Gavin loves Telfer Place and he is comfortable in his apartment. He often says to us "that he doesn't need anything more. He is very happy at Telfer". Thank you to all staff members for your ongoing support and going above and beyond.

I just wanted to say how much I appreciate how you've made my father feel ‘right at home’ in his new apartment. With no family visiting and covid he was becoming more and more isolated; this apartment has provided him with many new friends, the meals have been great, and he has a place to stay active - physically and mentally! Thank you! And please say thanks to all the staff who've made (are making) this such a pleasant experience!

First impressions are Lasting Impressions and when a young man can make a lasting impression on a 90 year old resident with moderate Alzheimer's, he deserves our thanks.  You see our Father is recovering in hospital ... From a fall, and in his time of need, who does he wish was there? That young man is Galen, a covid screener 4 outdoor visits and front door guests at Telfer.  His kindness, his wit, his willingness to go the extra mile, his respect for our dad ... It's made a lasting impression!  Galen ... Thank you for making a difference!   Once he is rehabbed, Frank will be back... And he will be asking, "Where's that Galen fella?"  Maybe on the day he returns,  you will be the 1st impression again! On behalf of Frank Tozer's family....many thanks!
