BEWARE THE HIDDEN INSTALLATION CHARGE AND THE LACK OF WARRANTY!
In March 2024, I paid Signature Signs over $500 to prepare two wall decals for my downstairs theatre room. Each decal was a specific size and design, which Signature produced identically. I paid an initial 50% deposit and completed payment when the decals were completed approximately a week later. I was happy with my purchase at that time and picked up the decals to take home.
At the time we picked the decals up, nothing was said to us about the installation of the decals or the fact that the product was not under warranty unless THEY installed the decals in our home, at a charge (I found out much later; see below) of $165 per hour, nor was I told that the decals would only stay on the wall for three years, at the most.
My wife and I took the decals home, cleaned the walls where the decals were to be put up, and carefully adhered the decals to the clean, sterile wall surface. When we finished, both decals looked great, and we were happy with the $500+ purchase.
However, after approximately two months, the decals began to peel on the edges in various places. In looking at the decals, it appeared as though the glue used for the decals was not suitable for the surface. We got a daily reminder of this, as our efforts to readhere the decals were futile. Over time, the peeling increased on both decals.
On Christmas Day (of all days) 2024, I discovered the Whitecaps decal on my wall had peeled off entirely, removing a layer of paint from the wall in doing so. After months of trying to readhere the decals on our own, I'd given up, and made multiple attempts in December to revisit the offices of Signature Signs, which was closed until the new year.
When I finally was able to discuss the terms of a refund with Robb Lewis on the phone in January 2025, he made more of an issue of how we'd installed the decals, commenting more on our incompetence and lack of know-how than the actual product itself. When I asked him for a refund, he made a point of asking what my occupation was and where I lived. He became quite upset when I insisted (mistakenly, I admit) that the decals were installed in August, rather than March.
He refused to give me a refund for the product, but offered to reinstall the decals for me IF I paid for two new decals, obviously at the same charge. I stated that he should reinstall the Whitecaps decal, and if it peeled again, he should refund me for the charge of both decals. I didn't hear back from him.
I might add that when I mentioned he'd be getting a poor review from me on this site, he accused me (on the phone) of being a "keyboard warrior" and that "Kamloops is a small town; I can find out who you are", which is certainly not a veiled threat at all. His tone and attitude towards a paying customer WERE COMPLETELY INAPPROPRIATE.
I dare say, in staring at the blank space on my wall now, I will be searching for other solutions than Signature Signs.
