I called in the morning about picking up some cedar fence boards and got a call back same day. When I called I let them know I'd be at least an hour out and was worried the boards would sell out by the time I got there. They offered to pick the boards for me if they started to get low. I picked up some B boards, which were advertised as likely to have defects - cracks and big knots. I found great quality boards for an unbeatable price!
I don't know what these previous poor reviews are on about. Unfortunate they had a bad experience but to leave 1 star is a poor representation.

Called ahead of our project to determine that they have panels in stock, called the Friday before a planned Monday pick up to order panels and a gate (10 panels nothing significant) and due to rain wasn't able to get out Monday to grab, called Tuesday to add one more panel to my order to find out their compressor is blown and panels are not ready, beyond there control but can't believe someone wouldn't have called me Friday or Monday to let me know my order wouldn't be ready, very disappointing when everything was prearranged. I would not recommend.

Completely understand that the equipment breakdown is outside of the company's control, issue was more that I was never informed the panels wouldn't be ready for Monday pickup.

Last year we bought fence panels here and we were really pleased with their product and price. Staff were very helpful too. This year I have been trying to order some cedar lumber for a construction project and it’s been very frustrating. They have promised me on two occasions that they would have material for me and each time they said the run was short. I have left my phone number with them to call me when they get the product for me and no calls. They say on the website that it is order only for the material but wouldn’t take an order. Almost every time I call nobody answers. It takes over 10-15 tries before someone even picks up. I’m certain now that they have blocked my number too.

If you need lumber for a job your doing you can’t rely on what these guys say to you. They can’t be depended on and because of it I’m over a month behind on a cladding job. I recommend finding another more reliable supplier.

Avoid at all costs. I contacted the company on a Wednesday to get prices for one of their cedar products. I came down the next day specifically for those products, a one hour drive, only to be told that they could not sell them to me because it was raining. Frankly I'm shocked that a lumber yard can't do business because of rain in BC. I was also treated with minimal courtesy to say the least. I will never return to such a rude and poorly run business.

EDIT: contrary to the business reply, I was NOT told that I could look at any of the products I was interested in by the very uncourteous employee (which I note the business reply makes no mention of). And what's more, to not be able to sell a wood item because it is raining in BC is ridiculous. If it is located in a "dry, secure area" then that is ideal for customers to view it. There are many places to buy lumber and wood products. It's sad that West Valley has become one of those businesses that treats their longtime customers so badly.

These guys were super easy to deal with. Fence panels are top quality not like the flimsy ones at the box stores and a comparable if not better price. Defiantly worth the trip from Nanaimo. Recommend 100%

If you are looking for Cedar lumber or Cedar products, look no further. They have a great selection and good prices. The staff are knowledgable, helpful, and will do what they can to make sure you have everything you need. This is where I go and send my friends.

Over the years I have build a few decks and fences with Cedar lumber from area mills.

I always find West Valley Cedar Lumber friendly, accommodating and great prices.

My latest visited was to look at ... that's my little secret.

Contractor bought a few too many cedar panels to be sure had enough, and mill flatly refuses to return them even though they are standard 6' panels in stock non custom. Cedar prices are crazy so it stings. Out almost 1000$ Not happy!
