It’s a very tidy store. I love getting their Western Canadian Grain-fed pork shoulder blade🇨🇦 to make Chinese honey BBQ pork, juicy, tender and YUMMY. Not many supermarkets carry Marina del Rey Wild Caught Argentinian Shrimp, but they do. We like to buy the raw ones. It’s very delicious and you can good deals when they are on sale. Rusty and Darren at the Meat/Seafood department are very friendly and helpful. We also love getting sushi there. The sushi department is always clean and the shelves are always filled with freshly made sushi. We love their party trays, order in advance and you won’t be disappointed. Richard and Vanessa are always so friendly and helpful. Really appreciate their efforts.

Great store, clean, well stocked and competitive pricing. I am thrilled that they offer assistance in bagging your groceries, staff are always courteous and professional, they do their job well. It is my favourite store.

Nice grocery store that is easily accessible and open late at night. There is lots of parking and is accessible to all. Always impressed with the quality and freshness of the food. There is a great deli and flower shop. The prices are comparable to other grocery stores and when there is a sale it’s a good deal. All your shopping needs for food will be found here, there is nothing lacking.

DO NOT BUY FOOD FROM THIS DELI:

I just had the most horrific Chinese food ever from this place. Packaged today, and everything tastes like stale garbage. Neither the rice nor the chow mein is even remotely cooked and the pork is soggy and tasteless.

Got home and an item listed on sale didn’t come up at the sale price. Went back to the store with item and receipt, grabbed the tag and went to customer service. Asked if it qualified for scanning code of practice (I’ve worked in customer service for 6 years), and the young guy behind the counter said no we just refund the difference. I pointed to the counter where the scanning code is posted and it felt like he looked at me like I was a scam artist. I explained the scanning code and he proceeded to only pull up the difference. I said I would rather just refund the whole item then since there was a line up behind me. Very frustrating service.

Thrifty Foods always has the best baked goods made fresh on site but they need more quality non-GMO fruit and veggies. We are still buying from local small suppliers and thankful for them but fresh, non-tampered with produce is getting very hard to find in grocery stores. We buy very little produce at this store.

Update Sept 30,2024
Thrifty Foods aka Sobeys no longer does much bakery fresh on site. I found this out in person at the Cook and Quadra location in a conversation with the bakery staff.
A few items like muffins and breads are made from pre-mixes here but that’s about it.
The baked goods are still very good and better than other supermarkets in my opinion. I believe they are made at larger stores in the mainland and shipped here.

Store staff are very helpful and professional for the most part.
I talked briefly with Tammy who works the till up front and is probably the best customer service person I have ever seen. One of the most helpful and humble people I have ever met and seems to go out of her way to serve and make this store shine.
She should be the manager of a big store.
Her skills are vastly underrated and I can’t imagine someone of her calibre getting barely above minimum wage anywhere
Just doesn’t seem right or just.
Hopefully this will change in the not to distant future.
Al in all this Thriftys is pretty well run but prices are consistently higher than other stores like Walmart, etc.
I often find items I won’t pick up at Thriftys because of price, at Walmart at far lower price. The guess that’s volume buying power.

They have everything including the produce, meat and fish which are very fresh. The Sushi they prepare daily you can find when you first enter the market. Don't forget to grab some...

Thriftys, you used to be so good. But then you switched to your supposed "Premium" model. Now you have the same brands as everyone else, except in most cases double or triple the price. And that is assuming you remember to get the old products out before the expiry. I mean, look at that green fur!

What the heck happened to you, Thriftys?
