Best chili oil in town. The people who own it are sooo nice and cheerful. I put this chili oil on everything 😍 and the toasted garlic still maintains the crunch (magic!)!!

Visited the booth at the khatslano street festival and got to try a bunch of their sauces! Chris and Lou were absolutely lovely and gave us such an awesome experience :))

Here’s my thoughts about each of the sauces, ranked from “worst” (they were all good!! Some were better than others) to best:

Number 5: lava, salted egg yolk chili sauce ~ this one was delicious, you can definitely taste the egg yolk and I can see it being used in any ramen recipe. It’s the lowest on my list just because I probably wouldn’t use it, but it was good!
Number 4: extra spicy chili oil: I had higher hopes for this one as a spice lover! The flavours were yummy and punchy ~ I’d describe the flavour as “burnt” but in a good way, but I didn’t really taste much spice at all (it wasn’t any more spicy than the OG for me personally). It was definitely delicious though!!!
Number 3: lions mane mushroom barbecue chili oil ~ wow! This one was very good, it has a distinct flavour that would compliment any dish, especially a dish where barbecue flavours are involved. The mushroom gives it an earthiness that’s unmatched!
Number 2: spot prawn supreme chili oil ~ not even sure how to describe this one, it was just SO YUMMY! It was not fishy like I was expecting, rather it felt like it would go well with fish, meat, and plant dishes alike. Quite good and unique!! We purchased 2 of this one!
Number 1: the OG Canadian duck fat chili oil sauce!! This one blew me away so much so that I was literally speechless after I tried it. The flavours were amazing; it was rich, a little spicy, and absolutely delicious. We also decided to purchase 2 of this one as well!

Tried the samples of these amazing chili oil and the authentic Typhoon Shelter Seasoning, at the PoCo Canada Day event. Bam! 💥 that was a bomb! Hit home! Their chili oils are packed with flavours! And the owner and his cute wifey are so friendly and sweet!

Initially found them from the HK fair back in May, bought an extra spicy chilli oil and we were beyond amazed by how flavourful it was! Later on we passed by a spice place on Davie and bought the lava chilli oil and it was sooooo good we finished it within 2 months. Just early this week I ordered another 4 jars of chilli oil (extra spicy, lava and vegan) and Chris personally delivered them to my place and texted me where he put them cause I wasn’t home. Absolutely satisfied with the quality of the chilli oil, as well as their customer service. We will be a regular customer for sure!

Just tried the variety of flavours that Holy Duck offers at the Khatsalano street festival and have to say that both the flavour and amazing service from Chris made this an amazing experience. After having tried them all I would say my rankings are as follows:

1. Spot Prawn
2. OG
3/4. XX and Lions Mane
5. Salted Egg yolk

Their sauces are a staple! Goes great on everything and even with simple dishes. My fav is the lava salted egg 🍳 Always super happy to see them pop up at local markets and events!

We tried the OG, the XX, and the Lava. We loved all of them, and were definitely debating between the XX and the rest. We ended up getting the XX for the richer more focused spicy, but they are all so good!

Was helped by Chris who was super friendly and helpful with our experience! Here are my ratings for the different sauces available to test:

(LAVA Salted Egg Yolk Chilli Sauce): 6/10 —> presence of egg taste which is great!
(SPOT PRAWN Supreme): 8/10 —> very flavourful and full taste
(OG Canadian Duckfat): —> 10/10 Great flavour presence, with a small spicy kick! Definitely recommend!
(XX Canadian Duckfat Extra Spicy): 3/10 —> tasted burnt while not being spicy much at all. Wouldn’t recommend.
