With this being our fourth baby I didn't think I needed a Doula I hadn't had one previously up to this point but am I every thankful we did. My previous three labour and deliveries were so fast I assumed that's how this one would go as well. Contractions were getting pretty intense around 11 pm but still lingering around 5 mins apart that went on till about 5 am, I was starting to panic as at that point in previous labours all my other kids had been born. Sent Kayla a message and she headed right over (this was also our first home birth). The minute she walked into the room a weight was lifted off my shoulders and everything felt calm. She has such a peaceful presence and knows exactly what to say or do in moments of need. I don't know if I can put into words how incredibly grateful I am for her being there to support me during this labour. If this is your first or third or fourth birth and your debating on hiring a doula don't second guess it just do it. Kayla provided absolute phenomenonal support and care I cannot recommend her enough.

Before getting pregnant I hadn't even heard of a Doula. Now I couldn't imagine going through this process without one.
Kayla was our Doula and when I say she was worth the weight in Gold. She really was. Until you've gone through it you don't realize how truly invaluable it is to have someone who is 100% in your corner when you can barely even speak anymore let alone advocate for yourself.
The knowledge and the experience really comes into its own. I can not even explain or out into words how truly amazing and grateful both myself and my partner were to have Kayla.

Especially after birth she was always available for questions via text or even phone call. Those days / few weeks after birth can be very overwhelming for a first time Mom with many questions marks flying over your head.

I’m super grateful that I was able to meet the ladies at Birth Matters. I took a Prenatal 101 class when I was nearing my due date and it introduced me to a community of supportive mamas and incredible resources.

Kayla puts on these ‘Gather & Grow’ sessions every few weeks or so and it gives me a chance to get out of the house, introduce my little monkey to other babies, and give me such needed safe space to chat with other mamas about what’s working, what’s not working, helpful tips and suggestions, laughs and of course much needed coffee. I’ve made some really great connections, and that has been a lifeline for me as someone who’s not from Kamloops and never knew a soul when we moved here 2 years ago.

I also appreciate how Kayla is continually inspired to offer more resources for the mamas of Kamloops, constantly adding valuable teammates to her group, including a lactation consultant, a physio and pelvic floor consultant, sleep consultant, and a somatic healing and baby dance class teacher. Thank you to Kayla and the team at Birth Matters for being my much needed village.
