I highly recommend Georgia Strait Women’s Clinic. I attended for trauma, depression, grief and anxiety and am feeling as though I have the tools to live a more meaningful, productive life with intention. I was pleased that this facility catered to those seeking help for issues that did not encompass addiction. I felt heard, comfortable, safe, inspired and as though I was working with professionals who enjoyed their jobs and wanted to be there. The staff were all truly incredible. There’s a nurse on staff 24/7 for any issues you may have. I was always met with kindness and genuine concern for my journey and well-being. The program was truly a thorough approach in that so many aspects of your life were examined and supported. Some services were offered only if requested or deemed medically necessary. Nutritionist appts for example, were by request and I found to be valuable for my journey. I find that since everything is taken care of for you (ie: meals are cooked, transportation, scheduling is covered, medications are available on site, etc) that all you have to do is work on yourself and this environment is so supportive to do it in. The main facility where you sleep at night has private suites with a kitchen and living room. It is also directly across the street from the beach. I feel as though so much thought, effort and attention has gone into to every single detail of the client experience that it blows my mind that anyone could have a less than wonderful experience here. If I ever need recalibrating, I know exactly where I will be going back to. I feel the value you get for the cost is worth the expense. This organization clearly takes care of their staff and is very transparent about how they do business. My only criticisms were minor (ie: make a specific class longer for example). Do your research, ask questions about what is most important to you in your own treatment stay. Only you can decide which facility is best for you. GSWC was exceptional in my opinion.

I am very grateful for the life changing 6 weeks I spent at GSWC prioritizing sobriety and my mental health, well worth it! The healthcare team and staff go above and beyond to customize the program to your needs and really take the time to listen in a welcoming and non-judgemental manner. They go the extra mile to make your healing journey the best it can be.

Edit: The need to advocate for yourself so friggen hard to the medical staff is super frustrating. I went 2 weeks with only 2 nights of decent sleep and I felt that more could have been done to help. Clonodine was offered but only if my blood pressure was over 120. I have a naturally low blood pressure so this was hard to reach. One time it was exactly 120 - just one digit too low - and it was so sorry, too bad, no sleep for me that night.

When I was signing for my discharge meds, they advised me that they were sending me home with less than discussed. This wouldn’t normally be an issue but it was a long weekend and I don’t have a family doctor so I get my prescriptions filled online and they renew them for me. One particular med was going to run out right after the long weekend but my renewal wasn’t eligible to refill until the following week so I would have to go without my meds for a few days. This was an issue the nursing staff caught a week prior but still nothing was done to resolve the problem.

That being said…. I do want to thank Tianna for helping me to get some of those issues resolved, 12hrs before my departure, but having to pick them up on the way to the ferry on an already tight schedule is a pain and really triggers my anxiety. Whoever was in charge of making sure clients have enough meds for their stay and their discharge really dropped the ball.

I do want to say that every staff member I spoke with face to face, be it a nurse, doctor, support staff, counsellors, psychiatrist, etc… they were all so friggen kind and helpful! Special shout outs to Shiann (who was the frontline staff I saw the most) just for being all around amazing, Mel for being so funny and helpful, and Vi for really pushing to get me help for my sleep, even though it didn’t work out too well.

Georgia Strait was amazing!! The facility is beautiful and the staff are wonderful. You do have to advocate for yourself sometimes, but I think that’s common in the medical field anyways. I definitely recommend coming here for any mental health, process addictions or substance use disorders. They focus on root cause of your problems, which is really far more helpful than telling you that your reaction to those problems is bad/wrong.

To anyone considering going here - DO IT! Don't think about, just do it. It will save your life.

Six weeks ago I was broken and addicted. I felt I was beyond help but at my family's insistence I went. I felt sick thinking about the amount of money we were spending for a stay here. Today I have zero regrets and would spend it again. There are just to many support staff to name (psychiatrist, GP, NP, nurses, front end staff, different types of therapies, counsellors, workshop facilitators) but I can see where the money goes and it is worth every penny! Such beautiful surroundings too. Thank you GSWC for saving my life, and teaching me the tools I need to stay sober and mentally healthy. It wasn't always easy - but I am eternally grateful - words can never express how much.

A very special shout out for House Manager Kristi, who first picked me up at the airport on the darkest day of my life, treated me with nothing but respect and kindness and who dropped me off at the ferry at the end of my treatment feeling like I had climbed a mountain and had the clearest, most beautiful view.

This was a beautiful facility. I felt more like I was at the spa than in treatment.

I only talked to the psychologist ONCE during my 30 day stay and it was over video chat. There was too much time wasted on random group chat than actual treatment. I don’t feel like the focus was on education of addiction, DBT or CBT.

I would recommend this facility for women who have attended one or more treatment centres in the past.

Very expensive.

The program has a mix of different therapeutic modalities that are well thought out and useful. This place will always hold a special place in my heart.
