I had a what I thought was a serious issue. I walked in to emergency, they checked my blood pressure and concurred. I was impressed. The attention was incredible I thought. The nursing was outstanding, particularly the students, and the doctors were readily available. I had multiple tests, and consultations. After 4 days I was released. I thought after walking out. If I ever won a lottery they would be on my list for a donation. Thank you KGH!!

I just had breast reduction surgery at KGH on July 14th. I just had to make sure that I left a good review. Every nurse, and employee I interacted with while getting checked in was fantastic. The nurse that brought me into the surgery waiting area and gave me a bed was very kind, and answered all my questions. My family was allowed to come back and wait with me too.

The surgeon came and met me and was kind and did what he had to do. Then the anesthesiologist and the nurse who would be in my surgery came and met me and went over more questions. All taking the time to make sure I was informed and comfortable. I walked into the OR, got on the bed, and everyone went right to work. Before I knew it, it was over and I was waking up.

All of the nurses in the recovery room were absolutely fantastic! They made sure my pain was appropriately controlled, and provided the most delicious popsicles!!!
I then went back to the first area I arrived to and spent some time letting the anesthesia wear off.

Not one person made me feel uncared for or unwelcome. They all gave me the attention I needed with no more than maybe a 5 minute wait. Absolutely fantastic care. Thank you so very much to all of the people in day care surgery at KGH. I told them all I would be leaving this review because people should know when things go well!

I came down from the Coast to be with my sister who called 911 due to serious health issues (COPD and Heart failure). When I arrived I needed my sisters apt keys since I’d be staying for a few days. Her intake bag was lost. I tried every avenue including Lost and Found etc. No luck! I drove to her apt hoping there would be an emergency manager on site since it was the weekend - no luck! I looked for a hotel and not one available under $300 so I was stuck and didn’t know what to do. Security said I could sleep in my car and they’d check on me - no way! One of the nurses that was filling in to help with staff shortages came to help look for the bag (no luck)! It was very stressful because my sisters oxygen filter machine was in it (very expensive and she would need it to go home)! My angel nurse was Fran (she works in rehab normally)! She brought 3 chairs, blankets and pillows and set me up right next to my sister for the night! Although uncomfortable I was grateful to her for thinking of an alternative and settle me in - she deserves a big hug and thank you! I was able to get a room the next night and access my sisters apt on Monday! My sister is still in the hospital not doing too well but every area she has been in she has received awesome care, sensitive nurses, great doctors who continually follow up with her and a lot of tests (very thorough)! Discharge doesn’t seem possible at this time but with me having to go back home, my sister and I feel so much better knowing she’s in the best, safest place she could be since she lives alone and has no friends or family in Kelowna! Thank you so much KGH for being there for us, especially taking care of my sister! I hope we get some positive news soon and would like to thank all the nurses and doctors who continue to help her on the 6th floor - Stroke unit! PS…..her bag mysteriously showed up in the cabinet and we can’t be more thrilled, regardless of how it got there!

I needed a non life threatening but necessary procedure today. I was so impressed with the staff, nurses and Dr’s from booking the appointment, doing the pre screen, in take, of course pre procedure care and finally the procedure itself. They were all so supportive, caring and informative in a time where the stress of medical treatment can be daunting. Everything worked seamlessly and folks were so nice. Thanks much to all fine professionals in the Ambulatory Care Services GI Unit.

Recently went in with a very urgent condition that needed immediate treatment. I have to say I was very skeptical and had very low expectations, given the current state of the healthcare system in Canada. When I was greeted with a packed waiting room in the ER, my skepticism seemed to be confirmed. Well, I was wrong. I was seen quite quickly, examined, scanned, diagnosed, admitted, and given a room all within 3.5 hours of arrival. I required minor surgery and it was scheduled for the next day, and done, albeit a little bit later than planned but that was due to an emergency situation that came up ahead of me. What really impressed me the most was the staff; from the nurses, to the porters, the doctors, surgeons and everyone there. Everyone was so friendly and helpful, and always provided as much information as they possibly could, while also being realistic and not making promises they couldn't keep. The care and understanding of the nurses was fantastic. All details of my treatment were thoroughly discussed with me numerous times, and I felt that I was in very good hands. As I had never really been in a hospital for anything before, they understood and addressed my fears, and were all very reassuring. From my arrival to discharge was just over 48 hours, and I am on the mend. My views were definitely changed with this experience. I can't thank the staff there enough for the treatment I received and how well I was taken care of.

GRAPHIC WARNING

I’ve been to Kelowna General Hospital (KGH) several times over the past 4 years, and unfortunately, my experiences have consistently been below satisfactory. I’ve tried to be understanding about long wait times and overburdened staff, which is why I never wrote a review until now.

However, today I’m sitting here after a cupboard fell on my head. I was bleeding, visibly injured, and have now been waiting over five hours to be seen by a doctor. My face has started to go numb, and the sheer exhaustion and trauma from this hospital visit are making me feel like I would have been better off trying to recover from this injury at home.

This isn’t the first time I’ve been neglected at KGH. A while back, I arrived with serious knee injuries and a full-blown panic attack. Instead of care, I was ignored like I wasn’t even human. No one checked my wounds while I sat crying in pain. I was spoken to for a total of five minutes. The entire time, they made me wait in a room for six hours, finally leaving at 5 in the morning, barely able, more emotionally exhausted to walk for the following weeks and with minimal treatment. To make things worse, the hospital wasn’t even crowded.

As an international student, this hospital has made me feel helpless, invisible and unimportant on multiple occasions. I came seeking care during emergencies and left feeling worse than when I arrived. This is not okay.

As someone who recently became a dad and who went to every medical appointment with my wife, I can only feel and say words of gratitude for all the nurses and doctors who were in charge of this, as well as the reception staff who were 100% on top of their tasks.
Their expertise and support for us as non-native speakers of English is beyond expectations. I have noticed how busy they are and they definitely deserve more support in any way they can.

Thank you so much!

I’m writing this review after repeated experiences at this hospital that have left me deeply disheartened and disturbed. My brother, who is battling severe illness—including alcoholism and pancreatitis—has been a patient here multiple times. These are some of the sickest, most vulnerable individuals imaginable, and they deserve care that is safe, respectful, and free from judgment.

Instead, we’ve encountered what I can only describe as a pattern of neglect, indifference, and what appears to be discriminatory behavior. The staff’s treatment of my brother has often felt dismissive, cold, and lacking in basic human compassion. The stigma surrounding his illness seems to have shaped the way he is treated—as if he is less worthy of care simply because of his diagnosis.

This is disgusting behavior, and it needs to be corrected. My brother, and others like him, should not be judged for seeking medical attention. He is sick, he is suffering, and he is trying to get help. That should never be met with eye rolls, delays, or half-hearted care. I am absolutely appalled by how we’ve been treated.

To make matters worse, I’ve witnessed what I believe to be racial bias in the way patients are prioritized and spoken to. This isn’t just about one bad day or one staff member—it’s a repeated and damaging pattern that has made an already heartbreaking situation even more traumatic.

I hope this hospital takes a hard look at how it treats its most vulnerable patients. No one should be made to feel like they’re a burden for being ill.
