I went to an intake interview as two psychiatrists had recommended counseling and support. The intake person was extremely cold right from the beginning. When I told her about the trauma I had experienced in hospital, she replied that a lot of people experience trauma in hospital. This was extremely invalidating. She later told me that I needed to live with suicidal feelings and recommended discussing my trauma with a friend. I had the false hope that I would experience compassion and empathy in the intake interview, but my experience was far from that. This individual even admitted to pushing me to make me feel uncomfortable when that was the opposite of what I needed. The manner in which I was treated in this intake interview was very distressing and I will not go back. Compassion goes a long ways. I hope this person reads this review and possibly approaches people that come in with distressing situations and treats them with the compassion and empathy that they deserve.
After a couple weeks I finally heard back and was offered to be put on a wait list for DBT. I had a counselor there in the past and she was great, hence the one star. It is extremely unfortunate that I was not offered counseling given the extreme distress that I was in and the trauma that I now have to somehow process on my own.

Despite being the victim of a legitimate crime with documentation from the RCMP, military police and an ex parte restraining order against the perp, a counsellor from this clinic that I talked to ONCE over the phone and had never met in person didn’t believe me and called the psych ward at the hospital telling them I had had a psychotic break because I “believed” I was the victim of a crime. When I asked for a different counsellor I was instead told I was never allowed to use their services again. The staff at this clinic are abusive and unempathetic and the fact that they mainly serve a vulnerable population who really needs help makes me literally sick.

Dr.Hemmerich is an angel on Earth. I honestly don't know where I'd be if it wasn't for her. She's compassionate, understanding and forgiving. I wish more health care providers were like Eva. I think if we had more like her we'd have less deaths from addiction. In the valley. Her nurse Gloria is who you see when you arrive and that woman is just as lovely as the Doc. Always ready woth a smile and a positive attitude. Thanks ladies!!!!

This is the worst “help” I’ve ever received. I was victim shamed and blamed, told I was sabotaging my own care because they cancelled appointments on me and was told that what I was saying (my recollection of the events) were unfair and untrue. I haven’t been condescended to in this manner since I was a child. I have reached out to this agency three times for help now and three times I’ve been let down. This last time was too much; I will never again trust them with my care. My FIPPA rights were utterly violated. I am definitely traumatized. And now, I am left without any help at all, as they are the only game in town. This agency has directly made my situation far worse. The receptionists and nurses are very helpful and caring but that was the extent of the help I received—being directed to the right extension of someone who belittled and psychoanalyzed me: the program coordinator, who is not a psychologist or a doctor of any kind. My guess is most of their clients do not have the means to sue them. Stay far, far away if you value your mental health.

I had a much needed time of one to one support a few weeks ago. I have attended the group classes on Tues. before and found them helpful. Problems are not fixed overnight, but even just being with others makes a difference.

I was at MH&AS twice--both times were awful. Not only were the visits unhelpful, the program as it was laid out to me is utterly demeaning. At the end of the visit, both times, I was to give a form so I could do a review of the meeting RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE PERSON I WAS REVIEWING! This is MASSIVELY UNETHICAL! Any fool who has taken psych 101 knows that this skews data in favour of what is being reviewed because the reviewee needs the help, doesnt want to be rude, etc etc.

was belittled at the walkin referral. basically was told I'm an alcoholic and my aniexty stemmed from that, when I only have 1-2 drinks once or twice a week. she was talking about how i should look into medication to "ease my cravings for alcohol" sorry ma'am, I dont have cravings for it. I've had sleeping problems for years before I even had my first drink and aniexty diganoised at 15. but she claims that Is all because I drink too much.
then they suggested day therapy and I was wary on it, and I told her that I would try. she said that "it's a lot of paperwork if you're just going to try and you would need to commit" ok, so I said what would happen if I dont like it? she said i would have to pull up my big girl socks and get over it and value myself enough to keep going. her name was christine. I left there in tears because she made me feel like a waste of space. I will never go back.
