House of horrors. My dad passed away from neglect in the Belcarra neighborhood. He was only there 5 months. My Voice and concerns were ignored. My heart hurts for the vulnerable residents stuck in Belcarra. He spent his last week in the Chinook neighborhood after my pleads to get him out of Belcarra and they were wonderful. It felt like a different building completely. But it was too late. He spent the last 11 days of his life in Royal Columbian hospital where he was treated with the dignity he deserved. They went over and above for him at the hospital. I’m avoiding details as there is no freedom of speech anymore and I do not wish this post to be deleted but please beware. My mom will not suffer the same fate. Knowledge is power.

Staff working here is not nice. When I visit my loved one the staff don't smile and also talk to me rudely when I ask them a question. Sometimes when I go into the section where I'm visiting the whole floor just stinks like urine and poo. Do they not have good ventilation? How can the staff not care about the smell and thinks it's ok to smell like that for days? The visitor parking is not visitor parking, since most of the staff takes up most of the space and I am forced to park very far from the entrance. Sometimes I have things that I need to bring for my loved one and it's a hassle to carry all that to the lodge, since I'm park so far. Doesn't the staff have parking underground? Why have signage for visitor parking when it's mostly occupied by staff.

Have a friend in bldg 2 and while most of the nurses and care aids try to do a good job there is often one nurse for all 3 floors and people have to wait for their medications. There are often arguments with patient about the vitamins she takes and why she is taking them. Proper medical supplies are often lacking and the nurses have to just make do with what they have. It is very disconcerting to hear what is happening on a regular basis since I am a retired nurse and know how difficult it can be when short staffed.

If I could leave a negative 10 on professionalism I would especially after observing DOC Tanya Vieira yell at staff. Poor nurse was just doing her job, then gets yelled at in such a public space. The resident was happy with the care their received from the nurse - she did not deserve to be yelled at like that. I truly hope there are more leadership courses based on respect cause Tanya Vieira needs a refresher. Also the food is not edible - very gross. I feel bad for the residents.

I did my practicum for HCA at Nicola Lodge under Merlie Viaje. She is a very good teacher. She very focused and eager to share her knowledge and experience with her students. She works hard to bring the best out of the students. She is passionate about her work and wants to see the same passion in her students. She is very compassionate and understanding.
Lucky to have her as my instructor.

Please make your own informed decision! I unfortunately did read the reviews and felt utterly sick to be honest. My father was placed here and I have experienced nothing but compassion and professionalism from all the staff here. The staff are truly exceptional and it is more than comforting knowing my father's needs are being met 24/7 which such quality and care. Thank you Nicola Lodge for easing my fears in this hard transition of life.💞

My mother is a resident of the Dewdney Neighbourhood and she is being well looked after. After taking a fall recently (she sometimes forgets to use her walker), the staff assisted her immediately, checked her over, calmed her down and had her sit in the lounge area in front of the Nurses Station so that they could keep an eye on her. I was able to talk to my Mom and she kept telling me how kind all the ladies were. In addition, I've noticed and have thanked the staff for ensuring that she is always nicely dressed when my Dad and I take her out. They take the time to ensure that her clothes are colour coordinated. I understand that things aren't always perfect - in today's world, care homes are dealing with a growing number of residents (many with forms of dementia) and a certain amount of funding. Looking after our ageing loved ones isn't an easy job and my family and I are very grateful for the care that my Mom receives.

I have a long time friend who has to live here due to mental illness..the staff who work here are extremely disrespectful to friends of patients one man telling me not to call HIM at this number? what call HIM this is not HIS number this is a hospital . My God what horrible staff they hang up on people just trying to visit the patients they "care" for. These people don't give a dam about their patients and it shows ..May God have mercy on you all. I wouldn't .
Update 5 years later.
Brought my friend a new bed along with new sheets and pillow I had to witness the nurse Valerie mimic my friends speech and basically make fun of her disability as well as power trip over opening the door as well as ask alot of personal information about my friend. An hour later after I returned her she was abusive in the way I mentioned above. The worst part about having to witness my childhood friend with her mental illness is having to deal with staff who does not care properly for her even not making sure she has proper foot atire on in the dead winter she has come out in slippers. I believe these good reviews are for the other side of care home for the elderly however they are totally abusive for the mentally ill just breaks my heart. I am hoping the director returns my call As of yet nothing.
