Sandy's Your Independent Grocer Salisbury - Salisbury, NB

Sandy's independent grocer is an interesting and difficult beast to describe. Part grocery store and part liquor store, sandy's serves as Salisbury's main grocery staple.

The store is located in a strip mall type building with ample amounts of outdoor parking. While the store isn't large, it offers essential grocery items such as fruits, vegetables, fresh meat, spices, dairy, frozen foods, bread, cereals, toiletries, and so much more. Because they are under the Loblaws umbrella, they carry many PC brand items and no name items.

The store has roughly 6 aisles, and due to the small store footprint, the aisles can be cramped and difficult to navigate at peak times. In addition to this, every time I visited the store, there were tall pallets at the end of some aisles, further adding to the congestion. I could see this being difficult from a mobility standpoint for those with wheelchairs or walkers.

Aside from essential grocery items, Sandy's also acts as an independent NB liquor location carrying various beers, spirits, and hard liquors.

The store has always been clean, well lit, and stocked adequately. Service has always been respectful and courteous. While Sandy's may be a little rough around the edges and hectic at peak times, it certainly serves its purpose as an essential grocer for the residents of Salisbury and surrounding locations.

If I could give this store 0 stars, I would. I stopped going here in 2020 after myself and others where treated as an inconvenience for shopping there, the store never having anything on their shelves, it’s dirty, their back shop is disgusting, and they leave their milk out back too long before it goes on the shelves. I would never buy anything that needs to be refrigerated or frozen as chances are it’s been warm at one point while sitting in that store. The amount of times I’ve purchased spoiled milk is astonishing.

I’ve never been treated so rudely by staff in my life. Today I went there for the second time in two weeks since my hiatus in 2020 and nothing has changed. If anything, it’s gotten worse! I don’t know how that is even possible.
There might be one person who works there with a smile on their face, everyone else is miserable and they take it out on the people who are trying to support that store.

Today- they blew it. Last straw. I had 4 interactions with 4 employees- not one of them with a smile on their face, not one of them made me feel like I wasn’t inconveniencing their day, not one of them was helpful and they all made the experience awful.
I will continue to travel 25 minutes into town to get what I need, even if it is inconvenient.

Hopefully when it changes owners they get rid of the rude employees too. Go be miserable somewhere else.

It has become necessary for me and as well another senior friend to stop shopping here. We both use canes but I park car by shopping basket corral and use basket to assist with getting in and out. BUT when you get it is extremely impossible to navigate up and down most aisles and some you cannot due to in aisle or end of aisle displays or boxes waiting to be shelved I am surprised the Fire Marshall has not done something about this. So due to limited driving ability I will be hiring someone to help with grocery shopping elsewhere.

Honestly, for a little grocery store, I can’t complain. Has everything you need the owner is absolutely amazing. She’s very very sweet.

Great place .awesome staff and owner just one little complain sorry but getting hard to shop always lots of product blocking the hall getting a bit frustrating..but will still shop there ..

Not only have a grown up in the town of Salisbury, but there's no better feeling than coming back to your local grocery store and I tell you when it comes to customer service in a small town feeling there's no better store than Sandy's your independent grocery. Even if you're not from the area stop in they're friendly staff can always help you. They can direct you where you need to go, whether it be grabbing a bite to eat or stocking up that cooler or giving you directions. The most caring, kind and wonderful customer service you could find in the village of Salisbury and I know several. When you're traveling, you just can't help it but stop in to scoot through a small town like Salisbury as it's growing and the population grows there, you can be reassured about the best customer service you find in the town of Salisbury New Brunswick...
