Overall, our experience at St. Paul’s Hospital was positive, but there were some challenges. We had an MRI appointment scheduled, but after waiting for six months, we were given a 2 AM time slot, which was far from ideal. While we understand the high demand for medical imaging, a more reasonable scheduling system would make a big difference for patients. That being said, the staff was professional, kind, and efficient, and the facility was clean and well-maintained. Despite the long wait, we appreciate the quality of care provided.

Was recently in Vancouver from the United States for a short overnight visit before getting on a cruise. My son could not get the pressure out of his ears from the flight. It was causing muffled hearing, pressure and ear pain. At 7pm he was still miserable. The hotel recommended St. Paul and got us a taxis over there. The staff was so helpful, kind and reassuring. We were there a little over 2 hours, which isn't much different than a wait at our hospital at home. The gave him a script for steroid nasal drops (most pharmacies are open until midnight). The next morning after the basal day he was feeling do much better. I highly recommend them and am very grateful for their help. They even helped get us a taxis back to our hotel.

I’m so happy and content knowing I won’t have my surgery at St. Paul’s Hospital. I have nothing bad to say about Dr. Tracy Scott. Her secretary verbally abused me on the phone on May 9th, 2025.

I was told last year that St. Paul’s Hospital is the most racist hospital in Vancouver and I now know it is 100% true. I’m utterly grateful I don’t have to tolerate any disrespect in that place ever again. I was treated with pure kindness at a hospital on Island Health despite the fact I was the only First Nations in that hospital. How Dr. Scott’s secretary treats people shows who she really is and I knew right away it was not safe for me there. Quality Care is no different and two of them played mind games. The most recent one wouldn’t allow me to talk until I start recording the phone call and then she allowed me to speak.

One hospital employee in my hometown went through the same thing with Dr. Scott’s secretary, so I’m not the only one.

You don’t ever treat someone like dirt and expect them to put their life’s in your hands. The world doesn’t work that way.

Doctors and other staff are fine, but I hope they bring back the helpful person who used to sit at the main entrance and gave directions. I spent close to 10 minutes trying to find the hand clinic for which there is no signage (I was last here several months ago for followup after CTS surgery and forgot that one simply goes to Outpatient for this).
I phoned information twice. The first person said to take an elevator to level 3 of the Burrard building, but that took me to an outdoor terrace, and when I went down some stairs into the building, I was on level 4. The second information person said take the elevator down to the 3rd level. I did so, but still no signage for the Hand Clinic. WHY NOT?
I asked a cleaning woman, who helpfully pointed me to the Outpatient registration desk. Why didn't either of the information folks furnish that important information, since there IS signage for the Outpatient department?
Please consider returning that helpful person giving directions at the door!

This hospital's EMERGENCY dept has a system that is superior to any other er I've had experience with. Kudos to them for the logistics, organization, kindness and compassion shown by all staff I observed during this visit.

I woke up in this hospital the other night with no phone or ID. I am from Ontario and was in Vancouver for work. I wasn’t sure if I had gotten drugged and assaulted and I left the hospital with no answers. They tried to discharge me when I was not mentally or physically in a well enough state and I had nowhere to go. Luckily my mum was able to get in touch with me and I was able to get a ride back to my Airbnb with a friend, but this hospital/emerg was not a nice place to be. They seemed very understaffed and they had me signing things but I was mentally not sound and I didn’t know what I was signing. I went to a different hospital today for testing and there was nothing on my chart to show I was even at St. Paul’s. I realize this hospital is right near east Hastings and that the staff here probably see a lot of overdoses and such, but I do not feel like I was treated properly or with any care. It just seemed they wanted to get me out of there.

I had a day surgery here and honestly, the whole experience was amazing. It was my first surgery ever, so I didn’t really know what to expect—but everyone made me feel so comfortable and cared for.

From the admissions staff to my awesome nurse Fernanda, Dr. Lee and her team (shoutout to Steve!), and of course Dr. Gagne and the surgical team, the recovery section nurses—everyone was incredibly kind, patient, and helpful. They explained everything clearly and answered all my questions, which made a huge difference in easing my nerves.

The space was clean and quiet, and I got to go home the same day. Even after the surgery day, Dr. Gagne replied to my follow-up emails very quickly, which I really appreciated.

Consider my 5 stars, a solid 500 stars!
