Edit: be sure to go down in person and make sure they actually do their job. Otherwise they just won't

Took them a year to send my medical info to a proper office. Didn't let me know any of the heavy machinery restrictions either, so I was driving unmedicated.

Your health is not their priority.
If you can, go elsewhere

Seriously probably one of the worst Clinics on the entire Island. My bad experience is a little to personal/confidential for sharing! As one person commented the lack of privacy I can absolutely agree how embarrassing most of us experience going here. Tofino also has Horrible Doctors that don't do their job properly. In the past I can remember people as far back as 2003 saying everything is fine (from Tofino Drs.) when having serious health issues that could become fatal.

The receptionists definitely need to find a better way to ask the patients the reason of their visit. When you approach the window to check in they ask you out loud why you are there and you have to practically yell
your problem as they don't approach you to have better privacy. Sometimes can be a very embarrassing and personal issue and the whole waiting room can hear you... 0 concert about patience confidetiality, which is a big deal in a small town.

I had an over the phone appt. booked with Dr. O'Brian yesterday for 11am, and after waiting more than an hour, he manages to call me by 12:26. Dr. O'Brian didn't bother to read the *only relevant report* beforehand, skimmed through it over the phone with me, and proceeded to prescribe me something specifically not recommended by the other doctor. And yes, the GP in this case is literally just a middle man required by our system, so that I can get the prescription I need. Thankfully, Dr. O Brian remembered his due diligence, scraped it up off the ground begrudgingly, and left me a voice memo via a private number to inform me of the situation. He gave me no way to call him back, offered no solution, and took no responsibility. I'd love to be able to call this just a "disappointing interaction;" however I know better, and it's far more accurate as the "true colours of Vancouver Island's healthcare system." How long before you all are held personally accountable for mental health related deaths in your area? Receptionists, GPs, nurses, you all signed up to keep the same standard of care for all patients, but apparently out here the standard of care only applies to physical health issues; the important, truly tangible stuff right? It's taken me a year to get this far along in the meandering and archaic process for mental health diagnosis and prescription, with push back every step of the way. Yesterday was just another warm sip of the familiar impossibility of getting even an ounce of help, ever, even once, by a health care professional. And while mental health *is* included in your standard of care, the overwhelmingly pervasive attitude around here is that it ought not to be.

I lived in Tofino off and on several times and have had the best support here from anywhere in BC. The reception has always been very polite and gotten me appointments, and the doctors have always been helpful.

Staff are friendly and respectful.
You should be aware this is the only doctor office in town. Your only other option is the emergency department at hospital.
Both locations are very busy in the peak season and that is starting earlier and slowing down later ever year.
The doctor at the clinic is on call at emergency.
If you need advice you can always ask the knowledgeable staff at either of the two pharmacy's in town or call 811.
Tonquin med clinic has helped me and my young family with terrible colds/flus, the monitoring of the health of 2 newborns to debilitating spinal injury I suffered threw a few years ago.

My husband needed immediate medical attention during a vacation to Tofino. The staff at Tonquin Medical Clinic was wonderful in every way. Dr Celina Horn was thorough, attentive, kind and knowledgeable. It was comforting to have that level of care so far from home. Thank you all!

Dr Moher at Tonquin Medical Clinic is definitely the best doctor I have had the privilege of seeing in my life. My son and I had medical emergency while we were vacationing at Tolfino, we dropped in at the emergency department at Tolfino General Hospital, where we met Dr. Moher. Dr. Moher has the quality that makes a great medical professional - empathetic, friendly, patient, attentive, and very caring. He didn't cut any corners like some of the emergency doctors do (looking at you Richmond Emergency Centre). He ordered a series of testing to make sure he gets to the buttom of the problem. He offered to see us later at his clinic a few days later, which was unheard of emergency doctors. Thoroughly impressed. If anyone from Coastal Heath Authority is reading this review, give Dr. Moher a raise, he deserves it. Thanks Dr. Moher!
