I am disappointed with my experience at Oak Bay Optometry, which revealed significant issues with team cohesion, lack of initial service, and carelessness in defining my prescription. After 2.5 months of back-and-forth, I was left with an erroneous prescription, frames that were too large for my pupillary distance, and lenses that failed to address the vision issues I was experiencing.

The initial prescription was not only incorrect but also caused additional expense and time delays. I initially trusted this prescription and immediately used it to purchase another set of glasses from a different source. Unfortunately, those lenses were also based on the erroneous prescription, leaving me with multiple pairs of optics that didn’t work for me. When I returned to address the issue, I was told to “give my eyes 2 weeks to adjust.” After no improvement, I was advised to switch to single vision lenses instead of office lenses, with the reasoning that it wasn’t the prescription causing the problem but rather my preference. Despite following this advice, asked to “give my eyes 2 weeks to adjust.” again, the issue remained unresolved.

At that point I sought a second opinion. The new provider identified the problem during the first visit and provided an accurate prescription that resolved my vision issues immediately. The experience at the other highly rated optometry location close by resulted not just in a more comprehensive eye exam, but the staff there worked tightly together to get me the solution I needed. This experience highlighted the lack of care and attention that went into my initial prescription and the ongoing mismanagement of my concerns.

While individual staff members were polite and they were working hard within the constraints that they were given by their employers, the lack of team cohesion and coordination in addressing my case was evident. This disconnect, combined with the carelessness in defining my initial prescription, led to significant wasted time, money, and effort. I urge the team to improve communication, attention to detail, and patient care to avoid similar outcomes for others. In the meantime, I recommend that patients in need of optical care look elsewhere, close by.

Consistently professional and friendly service from everyone I have dealt with; Dr. Hua, the woman who helped with my contact lens training (so sorry I forgot your name😬) and Amy who helped me to get my favourite sunglasses fitted with prescription lenses 😎Highly recommend this place to anyone looking for optometry services!

I see Dr. Sutter regularly, and she is wonderful. She was away over the holidays and I saw both Dr. Gill and Dr. Patterson, who are also amazing. Chelsea has helped me with choosing new glasses (she's very patient) and Eryn is doing some ongoing eye treatments recommended by Dr. Gill. My experience at OBO has been nothing but excellent. While I appreciate their professionalism and expertise, I am most impressed with their empathy, humour and kindness. Thank you, OBO team.

I highly recommend the Oak Bay Optometry clinic. From start to finish all staff were charming, helpful and knowledgeable. The surroundings are nice, appointments were on time and excellent suggestions were made to me. I wasn’t happy with my glasses due to the photo grey additive and they are replacing them with no charge and a smile.
What a great place! I have also encouraged my husband and brother to go to the clinic and they were both extremely happy as well. My brother has autism so it was important to me that he be treated well. He said they Very Nice to him.

I have been seeing Dr. Gill , the optometrist and Jackie, the optician for several years.
Recently when I replaced my eyeglasses and sunglasses
their new lenses did not work for me, initially. Dr Gill re examined my eyes to confirm my prescription was correct and Jackie worked with the manufacturer to determine the issue. It turned out to be the lens Manufacturer's problem.
Jackie went above and beyond to problem solve, working tirelessly on the issue that was outside of their control.
Jackie kept in close contact with me on a regular basis updating me on the progress of the replacement lenses.
The lenses have been corrected and I am very pleased with the final product.
I would return to Oak Optometry in a heart beat for the stellar service that I was provided.
