This might not be a surprise, but this branch has Zero idea what customer service is.
I'm a small business owner. My business survives against big box stores Purely based on Great Customer Service.
We already know that bank hours, for working people, are a smack in the face. Well, the new twist, that the Geniuses at SB have rolled out, is now from 3pm till they close at 4pm, they will not serve anyone.
They allow you to enter the bank only to tell you to bugger off and bank online.
If you need something that the ATMs are capable of, they will "teach" You how to do it.
Again, I'm a small business owner. It's challenging to slip away during the day to do any errands/banking, and if I can, It's usually towards the end of the day.
Yesterday, I needed to get some rolls of coin, as my cash drawer is nearly out.
I arrive at the bank about 3:07pm. Plenty of time before they close at 4pm.
Lady tells me that there are no teller services available but that she can help me at the ATM or I can do my banking online.
I tell her I'm here to get rolls of coin for my small business. She offers me the same options. We are INSIDE the bank. The rolls of coin are steps away.
I call her bluff and ask her to please "teach" me how to get the ATM to dispense rolls of coins. She says that they Cannot do that.
Ok.
I ask her to "teach" me how to use Online banking to get rolls of coins to take back to my store.
Well that is not a possibility either.
So, since neither of the options she is offering me alleviate my small businesses problem, I ask her what I should do.
Then the Manager, who's been listening the entire time with a frown on her face, takes over. She tells me to come and bank during business hours.
I point out that I am INSIDE the bank, during business hours.
She shifts to, "Hours that the tellers are open."
I say that it's Clear that this is the first I've heard about this Anti-customer service policy change. I'll make note for the future, but how can they help my small business today?
She tells me to Bank online or at the ATM or come back during business hours.
Pretending like any of those options will get my small business coin that afternoon.
I tell her she needs to send constructive feedback up the line to her bosses that this is Anti-customer service And a Terrible position to put the bank employees in. As they're not the ones making these stupid decisions, but they are on the front line of catching flack.
She says that she will file my "Complaint"
I tell her it's constructive feedback.
She says that it's a "Complaint".
I tell her that's an incredibly adversarial stance but whatever.
I again tell her it's not her fault, but the front line staff shouldn't have to take the hits for this Anti-Customer Service policy.
She says to me Straight Faced, "This isn't an Anti-Customer Service policy!"
I stop, turn back to her and say, "You're telling your customer, who is leaving your business because you have Denied Them Service, that your new policy isn't Anti-Customer Service. Do you know what gaslighting is?"
"That's not Gaslighting!"
Which is exactly what a gaslighter would say.
Anyways, I went back to my business with no coin. Ended up that I emptied the change cup in my car and made do.
I'll say this Scotia Bank, my Mortgage opens up in 2025. I'll be taking my accounts elsewhere.
Shockingly Anti-Customer Service culture at this Scotia Bank branch. And a messed up policy Company Wide.
